I just bought what I thought was a strat from a second hand shop. They told me the neck was Mexican and it might not be the original body, but I didn't think anything of it until I realized how much lighter it is than my strat squire. It plays great but now I'm kinda worried. It's seafoam green, the pick guard has a black stripe around the edge going all the way around, the neck plate has nothing on it. Looks all legit to me but my friend thinks it might not. The Mexican neck is a 2011 strat neck but that doesn't help at all since it's not original. Is there anyway I can tell if it's a squire or not? Would the bridge give it away? If so, what should I look for? I'd like to find out without taking off the neck since I just restrung it. Thanks for any help
EDIT: i took the base off. This is what it looks like:

Difficult to tell.
Remove the pickguard and see if there is a bar-code label in the bottom of the pickup cavity, also see how the body is routed.
The neck pocket lacks the CNC location hole (see https://shop.fender.com/en-US/parts/bod ... 03709.html ) so I would be confident in saying that is not a 2011 MiM body.
Whether it is a Squier, or some generic replacement body is a tough call.
It does lack the 3/8" hole drilled through the middle of the neck pocket, which is common on Squier and other Asian bodies.
The lack of any notation in the neck pocket with dates or initials also says that it is likely not a Fender product.

Quick tip on this, comes in handy when doing a setup that requires truss rod adjustment and neck shimming, clamp a capo firmly against the nut. Loosen the strings, while holding tension on them over the body. The capo will help hold tension on the tuners. The high E may or may not pop off, but the rest should stay put.
Loosen just enough so there is no tension, they don't have to be "floppy" loose, just enough so they don't pull the neck up when you loosen the screws. You can then flip it over and remove the neck screws.

It looks like a Squier bridge and pups, and it likely isn’t Seafoam Green, that color hasn’t been offered in sometime, and it was not offered on Squiers. It looks more like Sonic Blue to me.

It appears to be at least one of the nicer Squiers, or possibly an aftermarket body, with Squier parts on it.

OK, going on two somewhat similar pics only here, so any diagnosing is very vague. And PS; if this topic continues, please post pics on the forum instead of behind a link.

That body does lack the typical MIM 2011ish signs, so I'm thinking Partscaster, as the distinguished members above. Pics of the electronics might tell more.

On the color, I'd lean towards the Sonic Blue also, although color ID'ing is not easy on computer screens.
Sonic Blue has been on the Squier menu, at least on some Deluxes and Vintage Modifieds. With those both, there are no easy outs for separating them from Fender bodies - even the back plate middle screws are slanted.
And of those two, my guess would be the Deluxe; the bridge & plastics would fit that series. Would things be different if that had been sold as a Squier Deluxe with a MIM neck upgrade, I wonder...

Things I am seeing which raise concern:-

Neck plate appears to have a black gasket

PUPS have countersunk screws although it isn't a vintage repro model

The Vintage style trem cover has the middle screw hole in the middle not off set

The saddles are wrong for the other vintage features as noted above

No CNC reference hole or lettering in the neck pocket as noted by others

Timber looks like a mahogany derivative not Alder

I'm thinking Squire at best but more inclined to go with fake I'm afraid.
