Bless my cotton socks! Is that a reissue, or a real '54?

 - Ceri

It's not a reissue, Ceri. It's Serial Number is 10XX -- just 4 digits. It's not 100%, so I guess you say that it's been slightly re-stored. Here's a close up of the headstock:

Exactly!!!

I don't think we've ever seen a picture of ALL of Orvilleowner's guitars together, have we? But just adding many of them up in my mind, there is something I need to know. What is your exact address, Orvilleowner? And when are you likely to be out for a few hours?

Don't worry, I'm far away. But...

Cheers - C

Oh my goodness!!!
I might be showing my ignorance here, but I'd never heard this solo before. I just listened to it and it's unbelievable! Thanks, Ceri for pointing me toward the light! :D

 Why, shucks, Sir: I'm so glad to be of service. And delighted to help anyone to more Duane Allman.

If I could press the magic button and suddenly aquire the skill and musicality of any one guitarist from history then beyond all others it would be Duane. Yes, I am well aware of all the stellar geniuses that excludes, many of them with far more technical facility than Mr Allman. Yet it is the sheer beauty and exuberance of his note choices, and the organic rise and fall and further rise in mood he achieves, in that solo in particular, that bakes my cake.

In case anyone doesn't know it, Dicky Betts takes the first long solo on Elizabeth Reed (one of his best, too), then Gregg Allman on keys, and then Duane shows how it is really to be done. (If in doubt, to the best of my knowledge on Allman Brothers tracks Duane always comes out of the left channel in the stereo mix. Sometimes he and Dicky match each other so closely it can be hard to tell them apart.)

If you are still hungry for more Duane Allman another high point is the number Dreams from the first Allman Brothers album. Technically, it is thoroughly achieveable for us all. But just so tear-drenchingly beautiful!

I could go on like this all day! Cool it now, Ceri!

Cheers - C

My wife was good friends with Duane and Greg back in her teen years... :sigh: If I only had known her back then.

And back to the original topic... "Congrats!" 8)

is that fender decal on the headstock inlaid instead of just stamped on?

Yes, to the best I can tell, it looks to be a fender decal & not stamped.
But I wouldn't call the decal "inlayed"...
It definately looks like it is just on the wood underneath the finish.

Hey, nice to see you around, bss! It's been a while, hasn't it?

And nice to read this old thread again, with all your beautiful photos. Back in the days when Orvilleowner thought 1400 posts on the Forum was a lot...!

bss, I've heard of brass rubbings. But how do you take a rubbing of your Strat?

Seriously, very cool. If Fender don't use that in an ad they're missing a trick.

Cheers man - C

She's a keeper! Mod to suit your tastes, though I don't think I'd change a thing.
