Hello everybody. I am considering either buying the deluxe player's strat or the deluxe roadhouse strat. i'm not sure how many of the reviews i can trust. and basically. i just need input on the different styles playable on the deluxe player. (i play mostly classic rock, blues, and alternative rock.) thanks everybody. [/img]

Have you had the chance to play them yourself?

Here is my breakdown if I had to choose between the two:

Deluxe Player:
Gold hardware (negative - looks gaudy to me, sorry)
S-1 switching (positive)
VN - Vintage Noiseless (I hear these are nice, but have not used extensively to say for myself)

Deluxe Roadhouse:
Only maple fingerboard (big negative for me, I strongly prefer rosewood)
Texas Special pickups (love these)

Final decision:
If it were my decision, I would do some more research/ test-driving on the DP to get a good read on those VN pups. If I ended falling in love with the VNs I'd "likely" go for the DP. But if I did not fall absolutely in love with VNs, I would go with the Deluxe Roadhouse and learn to love maple.
The DR is an awesome guitar. I love those Texas Specials.

Just my $0.02...

The Deluxe Roahouse gets props for the TS pups and great tinted maple neck.

The Deluxe Players gets props for a nice 12" radius fretboard, S-1 switching and the VNs are GREAT for recording.

Both are fine guitars, different, but fine none the less, IMO.

I suggest you to try playing a LoneStar strat or if u like the single coil
in the bridge & don't mind maple try playing a roadhouse.

I have played all of these strats & I did Not like the deluxe players strat.
I don't like gold hardware either but that isn't why actually.
I didn't like the way it played at all. I didn't like the feel of the neck.
(12 in radius means its flatter than the rounder feel of the usual strat necks ~9.5 in)
The roadhouse & lonestar were better in my opinion.
That humbucker in the lonestar is great too.

i agree about the gold hardwae looking.. well . really flashy. and i've heard good things about the lonestar strat. i didnt know it had all single coils... any way. are they the tex mex pickups? because the sound is really more important than the looks to me. i just need a strat that can produce a VERY wide range of tones. really clean cleans and distortion that can get dirty

I've never been fond of the gold hardware on a strat either. To me that's a Les Paul thing.

I was in the same situation as you. I have an epi LP but it didn't suit some of the stuff I wanted to play. Then, I got myself a Deluxe Players (sapphire blue) and it's an amazing guitar for the money. Extremely versatile in my opinion. I'm not a huge fan of the gold hardware, but it's grown on me and I never notice it. The color combinations really stand out and so does the tone. Granted it's no American Standard, it is actually quite comparable. If you're looking for something in that price range, I'd strongly recommend it, but play it if you can as well as others in your range.

I had a Deluxe Player's Strat for a while. I fought with the pups for weeks trying to find a good balance for anything other than a clean sound, which it did really well. But with overdrive or distortion of any amount, things got really edgy and shrill, and it got worse the louder I turned either of my tube amps. Another thing that bothered me was that turning down the volume or tone knobs on the guitar simply killed the tone, rather than just changing it, things went from edgy to muddy with the tweak of a knob. I didn't think the swiching was 'S-1', but regardless with a clean amp setting, the button pushed in, and the blade in position four, it sounded really good. But I found alot more veratility in a 50's Classic, so the DPS went away and the 50's came home. It's been bliss ever since.

Description:
The Fender ’70s Stratocaster guitar features an ash body, U-shaped neck, fat headstock, bullet truss rod, ’70s Fender logo, Fender/Schaller Vintage “F” tuning machines and three vintage single-coil pickups. Available with a maple or rosewood fingerboard

I have never played it, but I already know I am not big on U-shaped necks. That is just my opinion, though. For me (who will never see or play your guitar) I would go with the Roadhouse before this one for sure. But - again - that is only my preference.

now the shapes are confusing me a bit. does the u shape have a sharper curve than the c-shape on the deluxe and roadhouse? also. are the p-ups hotter on the 70s or the deluxe. also can the roadhouse put out good overdrivien tones. looking for a guitar that i can keep for a while and is versatile :D
