Has anyone tried putting a base plate on their bridge pickup? I was wondering if helps the pickup's tone as much as some of the after market parts websites say it does. Is the installation hard to do yourself? Does it require any soldering?

Thanks!

I've put a Callaham base plate on a Robert Cray Strat bridge pickup - it noticably added some Tele-ish spank - that and wiring the bridge pup to the tone control and putting in a Sprague orange drop capacitor greatly improved the usefulness of the bridge position - it was too bright and thin stock.

When doing this it is extremely important to pot the baseplate to the pickup. It is pretty much impossible to use too much wax. If there is too much it will just melt, flow to another place and then drip off. Good luck!
