I saw this on Ebay.UK and the seller did not know what make this body was. There were no markings. This is one of the nicest sunburst finishes I have seen. I have not seen one like this on Ebay North America. Anyone have any idea where I can find a body like this? Thanks.

(P.S. UK seller ended up selling this for like $44 because he forgot to set a reserve price.)

This is indeed a nice burst. I only like the sienna sunburst a tad better.

Maybe, maybe not genuine Fender and loaded with plywood & glue under that veneer?

That's why you're classified as a Rock Star! I did't notice that.

I'm pretty sure it's not a Fender. The screw places for pickguard and backplate (middle) are different with a Fender made strat body

Not sure... Is that a line of grain running across the back and continuing in the spring cavity? If so, it's not veneer. But the neck pocket looks odd.

The world is full of people knocking out S-type bodies. If that one's from the UK then it could have come from www.kavanaghcustoms.co.uk (as recommended by Forum member EdMardell) or www.simscustom.com amongst many others.

We will never know...

Cheers - C

Which companies use veneer? MightyMite? How is the veneer molded to the body with all of the curved areas?

The veneer is only "molded" to the top. At least that is how Fender has it done:

Perhaps a real wood worker could tell us if it would be possible to veneer the back's belly cut.

Isn't that called a "drop top", or some such phrase? I've seen it done on top-end guitars too. Not just a sign of building to a budget.

Can't imagine how it could be done on the belly cut. But if it could, Orvilleowner would find a picture of it!

You have the answer. See the above picture of the pallet of MIM body blanks waiting to be cut and routed.

The belly cut is cut after the back is veneered, so it exposes the crummy wood that lies under. They hide the exposed crummy wood by painting the whole belly cut area black.
