It depends what music your playing and what you intend to do
with the amp. My observations:

Clean channel -Pristine clean and has pretty good tone.

Dirty channel -Decent rock tone, kinda like a boss distortion pedal

Volume-Loud enough for a drummer, but gets thin with more volume

Weight/size-heavy and large-difficult to carry through doors and
load in a car.

Durability-Its a FENDER!

Noise- quite on clean channel, can be noisy with gain high
(may present a problem if recoding with a mic)

Suggestion-I know the solidstates are inexpensive but I
think you find that a Fender Tube amp would
provide better quality sound, similar volume/lower
wattage, easier transportation superior recording
potential, higher resale value, and overall satisfaction...

I haven't played this amp, but I think if you like the way it sounds you can't really go wrong. I have heard that people have been able to take care of the thin sound at high volumes by replacing the speakers with something a little better (easy to do yourself).

I prefer tube amps, but this is a LOUD amp and I'm sure that you can dial in the sounds you want with a pedal or two. Dual channels is a nice feature and the spring reverb is cool. With a five year warranty, it sounds like a good deal.

Hello Hunter 91395,

I like the frontman line of amps
bulletproof solid state at a
reasonable price.

The 212 is a bit too much for me
only a parlor player.
{neighbors must have loved
the mark IV boogie that was here
a few weeks back.}

Most of my playing is through
a blues junior.

Cheers.

i'm no professional guitarist, nor do i play one on tv. i decided to learn guitar a couple of months ago so i purchased an acoustic first, loved playing it...still do, but wanted to get electrified!

started the search, within my budget, decided to go fender. i got a MIM HSS Strat and the 212R. for the general purpose, i believe this amp will do great for me. sounds good and it will crank up if you need it to.

i'd say buy it, if it fits your budget.

I play with a friend, who has the Frontman 212R. He's been very happy with it, it seems to be very rugged (he treats all his things very ruff-it even survived a few beer spills when the amp was used as a coaster, while playing). I've played with him in a band environment, and it easily played over a loud drummer and bass.

Great amp, but replacing the stock speakers with Emminence Texas Heats really made a huge difference. They filled made it sound warmer and more like a tube amp. Best money you'll spend if you get this amp.

I use the Frontman 212R for home practice and recording. The tone is classic Fender clean, wide and spacious, and all my guitars sound uncolored ... which is what I want. The only drawback is the cost-reduced reverb (supplied by AXL).

I currently use a reverb pedal, which is adequate and a bit more flexible than a reverb tank, but would like to have a classic spring tank to replace the OEM tank from AXL. That little AXL spring tank just sounds too thin and metallic to me.

I am having some trouble locating the proper full-sized Accutronics/Belton reverb tank for the Frontman 212R.

Does anyone know what full sized reverb tank model number is compatible in the Frontman 212R, and where I can purchase the tank?

My band leader has one in his recording studio and I've used it a few times. I can't really say that it impresses me, though. I can't seem to EQ it the way I want to and it sounds a little muddy. It certainly is big value for the buck, though.

I purchased one to replaced the amp I lost during the fire (a Power Chorus 212). I think it has awsome power, an great clean channel, good usable drives, but, a thin reverb. I miss the fat stereo chorus and effects loop and the thick reverb of the power chorus, however the drives on the Frontman are 100% better. Havent really used the effects loop in the Frontman yet as I havent replaced any of my effects yet.
