O.k im going shopping tomorrow. Clapton mid boost kit for my strathogany. I have questions!
1 where is the battery compatment located on the clapton guitars?
2 I dont really want to route the body if i can help it. How long are the battery wires? i've blocked the trem and would prefer to locate the battery between the trem plate and block.

out of interest (if anyone is) heres where im going to get em

top class amp builders

Just a crazy thought here ... Since the trem is blocked, what about removing it entirely and going hardtail, thus leaving the entire trem cavity for the mods?

Yes. Kinda like running those errands that just happen to take you right past Guitar Center ...

genius idea there.
i dont want to remove the trem, i like the sound of it as a bridge, but i could leave the block in place remove the springs and use the whole cavity to house the board and battery. top class idea mate. :D
Thankyou

Over in another "Fender oriented Forum" there was a picture of a midboost in the trem cavity. On my Parts o caster I have the circuit in the Clapton location and the battery in the the control route. I've heard that you can squeeze the circuit board in there too. You can change the battery when you change strings since it last a long time as long as you you the correct output jack. Another option would be to use the battery as the trem block itself. Or if you have the trem blocked place it inbetween two springs in the trem cavity
There are many ways you can go
Good Luck

Thankyou DomL
the guitar this is going into is also a partscaster mainly a squire neck, and a beautifull mahogany body with mininimum routing for the pickups and control cavity. I like the idea of installing it all in the trem cavity so i dont have to take any more wood out of the body. I may cut the middle section out of the trem block and fit the battery there. I dont like the idea of blocking the trem with the battery. when batteries split acid leaks out. I guess i've just got to see when i get the kit tomorrow how it will be best to work it.

The lower wall of the trem cavity is routed for a 9V battery on the Clapton.
The wires run forward into the body cavity rout on the front.
I
f you remove the center spring from the trem block you can set the battery in that space. I did that for my DG-20 years ago.

The body of the guitar is a '57 routing and is extended and routed for the circuit board just behind the lower horn.

The wood spacer used to 'stop' the trem block sits between the back of the trem block and the rear wall of the trem rout.
I'm sure you can find a photo of a Clapton body somewhere. Saw one on Ebay recently and there's one in Duchossoir's book for sure.

Its a screamer. These things should be mandatory with vintage noiseless pickups It has calmed their brashness right down. The battery is in the middle of the trem springs. the hotrods redundant for now.

like underwear, my taste in guitars changes many times during the week. :D

I'm fickle to the end. No doubt i'll be playing something else tommorow. Although this mod is definatley a keeper. With the mids flat out its like having 3 humbuckers to choose from. I only paid £40 for it, and whilst i was at sheldon amps, Mark the owner told me they are building a recording studio upstairs from the factory. I explained to him that soundproof partition walls had been my trade for the last 20 years and he gave me a drawing from which to price the job  . I may even be able to wangle a new amp out of it. Ive got my eye on the tiny terror, Very versatile indeed.

My brother-in-law is in a trade close to yours - he's a brickie. Where he lives (around Manchester) building work has dried up like an Australian drought. Need any help on that studio job? He'd probably buy us both Orange amps in return for work, just now...

If i get the contract, he's more than welcome although its all interior fit out. There will be no block or brickwork. I'm short on work myself, Have you never tried Sheldon Amps. You wont want orange, mesa, carr or Dr Z after hearing em. Their what im going to angle for as a early completion bonus.

Interior fit out? Way my brother-in-law's finances are right now he'd happily fit out toilets. He's been off for six months with a knee injury: got back to work a couple of weeks ago - to find the industry has vanished. He drove me round Manchester a few days ago showing me huge developments that have closed over night: not mothballed, just abandoned. Seems like we are all just talking ourselves into this recession.

Wonder if there's some way to fit your Clapton mid-boost to the economy?

There again, for the right Orange amplifier the -in-law might not get the chance of the job - I'll fit those toilets for you...

Anyway. Stop rambling, Ceri. No, I haven't played a Sheldon amp. Wonder where I can get to try one of those?

Cheers - C

walls, doors, desks roofs and floors. Plumbers fit toilets. I can hand on heart say, the last time i got involved in plumbing my dad ended up without hot water upstairs for weeks.
