If you don't own a guitar at the moment I would say Squier, but if you already have a guitar wait a lil and save for an epiphone SG good intermediate guitar. Arguably the best $300 my brother ever spent!

I also think you should save up. You have twice as many options at the $200 - $350 price range.
I went to musicians friend & selected solid body electric guitars - fender - $200 - $300.
There is twice as many guitars available compared to the range u are looking at.
There is a $300 Squier strat & tele to choose from.
An SG style, LP style & more...

If you're on a budget, the best bet might be to look at what is available in your range on craigslist. Good Luck!

Good and cheap can't be used in the same sentence. :?

Just kidding...I've seen several pre-owned Vintage Modified Squier Strats, and even a few used MIM Strats and Teles in shops and the usual online places. Check out scratch n dent specials too. Good luck!

I agree with both of these guys. Scratch & dent is a great idea.
Who cares about a scratch or even a small dent...
Go look at SRV's strat... Imagine him complaining...
"There is a small ding here!" (as he turns his nose up)
Or even worse yet, Imagine us listening to SRV only playing a perfectly beautiful painted strat.

Craigslist probably is your best bet.
I got my nearly-unused '99 MIM Stratocaster for only $200 on Craigslist.
It only took me about three weeks of looking. I checked once or twice a day and made a call or sent an e-mail as soon as I found something $150-$250 that looked good. From there it's a matter of luck. Most of the time the guitar was already sold but I did check out one very nice '04 MIM HSS before I tried out and bought my current Strat. Generally I've found most people selling guitars to be very nice (in my area anyway).
Ok, more drawn out than I intended.
Carry on!

you can get a squire stratocaster in that price range, anf for beginners, you couldn't ask for more in a guitar.

good luck

Yes - have you bought your own guitar yet, dethklok? Interested to hear what you went for, after all that discussion...

Cheers - C

The Shure in-ear monitoring system is the one for you. Available at a variety of price points, to suit most pockets.

We're gonna need pics of that white Strat when it arrives, you know that, don't you?

 - C

EDIT: Ah, I think I misread: you want a headphone amp? Er... Well, what about that tiny mini Pod thing, then plug the Shure headphones into that? Reasonable way to go...

Sam Ash in Cinci had a couple of MIM Strats and Teles in the Scratch and dent section for $279 2 or 3 weeks ago.

I would recommend the Squier Affinity Telecaster. I purchased one of those several years ago just because it looked alot like an American Vintage 52' Reissue. I was very suprised to find out the guitar sounded very good, and played well also. I traded it in an an American Tele, but I still miss that guitar. I may buy another. By the way, many online dealers sell that model for $169.00.
