One question. Do you have to make extra drilling on the HW1 headstocck to add Shaller locking tuners
Please answer me to my e-mail: tonilaznik@hotmail.com

I agree about the stock pu's being weak, too thin and tinney for me, I couldn't connect with my HWY 1 and now it's gone. I like keeping my guitars original, which is why I didn't swap out the pu's, personal preference, perhaps a deluxe strat is in my future?? I really wanted to love the HWY 1 strat but in the end it wasn't for me. I liked the feel and sound of the VG (with the electronic effects off), but after having it a while it seemed too articifal with all the settings and electronics and I also didn't like the battery thing. The American Standard feels and sounds much more substantial to me. Your mileage may vary.

No...direct fit. I did it in minutes.

Too thin???? Image

Are you talking about the pre-upgraded version? I have the upgraded version with the Alnico 3 mags and 12.5K Ohms of wire on them. These are FAT! With the Greasbucket tone turned down to 3, the bridge pup sounds like a humbucker! These are not thin pups.

What do you think sounds NOT thin?

I have the upgraded version I bought it this april....
I constantly have problems with detuning so I am considering to do some hardware upgrade to resolve the problem
What is the best way to do it on the HW1 upgraded version
It has sealed tuning machines, vintage style tremolo (six screws)
Does anyone has a good experience with it
Thanks
T

Anyone who's thinking the Highway One pickups are weak needs to check out how they're set up and especially what they're doing with the tone nobs. The tone nobs on the Highway One Stratocaster have a huge effect. If you turn down both tone nobs to about 4 and to with a bridge/mid or neck/mid, turning up the volume of course, you've got a fat midsection on a great blues no hum pickup. I don't play a humbucker but it's probably not that far off.

Okay, so you get tired of that, dial the bridge tone to 10 and you've got a superclean semivintage screaming treble pickup. I mean they do it all. These pickups are muy fantastico! They are made in Mexico, but they are designed in the United States by people who really know what they're doing. If that bridge pickup is sounding trebly and weak, and you've adjusted the bridge height to the factory spacing, then check your tone nob. Probably, the tone nob is turned to 10 and your amping up the treble on that pickup. Turn that tone nob down to four, up the volume, and you've got a superfat strong midrange pickup. Of course, you've got everything in between, too.

Since I play everyday for a couple of hours (still not that good sob) I've already put a lot of mileage on my Highway One that I got a while ago. Also, I stablized the floating bridge with two extra springs, which lowered the bridge and showed me the bridge pickup was too low, so then I raised the bridge back to just a little under factory, raised the pickups, etc. and now I've got it dialed in exactly the way I want it. Strange thing is, when I checked with a good ruler, I ended up dialing in exactly recommended factory settings in bridge height (okay shaved a fraction off that), pickup distance from strings, string distance from fret at 17th fret, etc. So, the Fender recommendations match my ear.

man i tried a highway one and an american standard over the weekend and i was amazed... by the highway 1! i liked it a lot better than the american standard. it's the first time i've ever liked the cheaper option over the more expenisve. the nitro finish made the guitar feel so light and the tone was unbelievable (even the acoustic was nice. also no fingerprints) i've heard people talking about tryin a guitar to make sure it's your guitar and the highway 1 is mine. when i played it i had this awesome feeling. they're right about the guitar picking the player and the highwya one picked me. i'm not sure if i'm gonna be able to wait until february to get it. i want it now! if you're thinking about getting a strat, try it out.

I bought a used '03 Highway 1 Strat a while back that I really love. It logs more hours than my American Series. I'm sure the pickups have been changed. Most people thought the p/ups sounded brighter than a regular Strat but mine sounded warm. Also, the hum was cxld in the 2 and 4 positions.

Actually, buffing the guitar out is a great idea; one we recommend. That way, it ages from your playing, giving you a personalized guitar. The thin lacquer finish is great; you can polish it, check it, and wear it out. Like a Custom Shop guitar for under 1K.

Enjoy

I posted this guitar in basically new shiny shape a few weeks back, maybe longer... Anyway, I recently did a relic job on it and I'm really happy with how it came out. I would definitely buy another Highway one...

About the quote above... I didn't have very good luck getting the nitro to check... how would you go about doing it???? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here's a couple pics...

I'm looking forward to changing default pickups ('07 HW1) to 57/62 ones. What do you think?

I've been thinking about SCN noiseless, but the standard (upgraded 2006) p'ups are perfect for my playing and there's no need to change.

I have a 2006 Highway One and don't like the one I have. The tuners are terrible unless you block the bridge, it couldn't stay in tune and going to an alternate tune took awhile. The nut was a sloppy job in the cut. I also have a possible stripped truss rod, nice....

I heard on another forum that there is actually a thin coat of poly under the nitro. It was on a John Mayer forum where someone went to relic a nitro strat and discovered the poly undercoat. I know it doesn't make sense but he knew what he was doing and talking about...

I recently picked up a fender deluxe player's that has been sooo nice to actually have a guitar that works. I thought "Wow, after 8 months of struggle, this is how a guitar should feel and work." Maybe my highway 1 was just a lemon, I know it can happen sometimes from working in a car manufacturing plant. But here's the pic of my highway one, at least it looks nice, mine just doesn't play nice...
