I have a 2008 American Standard Strat. I've had it for about 4 months...no modifications or anything.

1.) I do not use the tremolo bridge. I just don't think to use it and have been playing for a long time. I don't need it. The manual suggests tightening the bridge screws to eliminate movement in the bridged for a fixed bridge. Anyone done this? Is there anything else to adjust? What about the rear screws in back?

2.) The pickups sound great during play, but they are noisy. I don't really want to change them. Would a noisegate or similar pedal solve that problem without sacrificing tone?

Put on 5 springs and tighten the trem screw till the bridge is flat. You're done.

You can try better cables for the noise. Maybe shielding is needed? A noise gate can help but you will lose some of the signal quality. Some notice, some don't.

I read an interview where Eric Clapton said that the first thing he does when he gets a strat is take off the whanger bar (his words) and tightens the trem claw all the way up to the body. I did that to my guitar and put on all 5 springs and it worked great.

You will also need to adjust intonation and string height.
