Hi everyone, I wanna say these forums are great, I believe this is my first post - but I've been lurking around since last winter and some of you are so knowledgable that I'm hoping you can help me out. I bought my son his first Strat last Christmas after 2 years of listening to him teach himself how to play on an old Epiphone. We've tried researching Special Edition Strats online and tried searching the forums here, but we can't find any information on why his Strat is a SE or what makes it a SE.

It's a 2006 MIM Special Edition HSS Strat. Black with matching headstock and chrome knobs. A unique (?) black patterned pickguard with matching back plate. It also has the 60th Anniversary tab on the back of the headstock. It's all stock, haven't changed anything, but did lose the chrome switch tip and haven't been able to locate another one thus far.

Does anyone have any info on this SE?

I've got one of these in Olympic WHITE... With Matching Headstock and same Headstock Logo.
This Silver Logo is exactly same as US Made Deluxe Stratocaster.

The pickguard and trem cover on back were likely replaced on your sons black one.
Trem cover and pickguard were likely black when brand new, as what is on there isn't likely Fender
On my white one, it was parchment white guard and trem cover, sort of tribute to the 1960 version.

I've replaced the pickups on mine with Fender Custom Jeff Beck HOT Noiseless, and the pickguard is now Tortoise with aged white hardware. This guitar is seriously RARE... I don't even have the details on how many matching headstock's they did. Mine too is a 2006 it seems they may have done this in recognition of Fender's 60th anniversary.

Hey there, just wanted to chime in and say I just purchased the identical Strat for my daughter. The pick guard, back plate, knobs etc that you have are stock and have seen a couple others like it. Here's a link to another post that I found - http://www.strat-talk.com/forum/stratoc ... ost1025164

I too would like to know more about this or what is special if any more info is out there.

Cheers

EDIT: After researching some more it is known as a FSR (Factory Special Run). Looked for it in catalogs but due to being an FSR it won't show. Prices at the time that I could find range from around 500-600 USD list. I've seen a lightly damaged one on eBay sell in the high two hundred. Also seen some values being thrown around as 400 or so on the forums.

From what people have said it may have an Atomic humbucker, not sure.

For a 2006 model, Fender probably has the specs, so you could email them with the serial number if you want to be sure of the pups & such.

Google search brings up quite a few of those models, there's even another topic: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=21048

Sorry the OP didn't get an answer in 2008...

Just found a March of 2007 flyer from Long & McQuade (Canada) that has this guitar listed. There seems to be some confusion over this model here and there, hopefully this thread will help some.
