I'm new to the boards and had some questions/observations regarding my Strat...

I have an '05 lefty MIM Strat. The tremolo arm has quite a bit of play both up and down before it will move the bridge. Could the trem arm be the wrong size?

Also noticed from the bottom of the bridge block, the hole that the trem arm screws into goes completely through the block. This of course does not allow for a trem arm tension spring to stay in place; it just falls right on through and out the back.

I bought the guitar new off the wall at a local shop and it actually had a righty trem arm with no tension spring to speak of. I'm just curious if this is normal for a MIM Strat and if anybody else has come across this as well?!

Fender recommends that you always remove the arm before storing the guitar in the guitar case. But what the hell, if you keep unscrewing the arm and screwing it back in eveytime you use your guitar your going to strip it anyway. What are you going to do disassemble and assemble it every stinking time? I used to leave my arm on and the case would gently close over it, depressing the arm a little down. Well it ended up it stripped anyway. You might want to screw in the arm just until you feel it tighten and then back off about a turn. Maybe your bar just isn't screwed in enough and there's just too much play probably just loose. Like I said, turn just until you just feel it starting to get tight and then back off a turn. This could be it, but as far as removing and putting the trem arm in every single time you pull the guitar inside & outside of the case is not only a royal pain in the $@! but is going to strip anyway. I'ts a no win or lose situation!
