I've got a stock 2006 MIM standard strat and play mostly off the bridge PUP b/c it sounds the best and b/c my neck and middle PUP sound almost dead with poor tone.

I've only been playing for a year, and was hoping my new amp would quiet down my concerns over my PUPs the bridge sounds amazing on my new amp, but the other two positions sound muddy and dead.

I'd like to avoid buying new PUPs right now but I just want to see if anyone else has experienced this or has had the same problem.

I'm using EB Super Slinky 9's and haven't changed any settings on my guitar since I had a set up done about 6 months ago.

thoughts?

Try experimenting with pickup height.

Maybe the wiring, switch or tonepots are not working properly.
Check it out or bring it to a tech.

buy a gibson! ha ha ! you might need to check your pick up height, failing that you might need to get your tone controls looked at, but if it always sounded like that id bring it back to the dealer.

Pickup height is a very good suggestion. But based on your description, this sounds like more than a pup-height problem.

My suggestion:
Take your guitar in to your local music store (preferably where it was bought, if possible). Explain to them the issue, and ask them their opinion. Besides getting their professional opinion, you likely will also be able to do your own A/B comparision with your git and a new MIM standard. Doing this should - at the least - let you know whether you have a real problem or not by the time you walk out.

thanks! i'm going to try to take it to the shop this weekend if I've got the time.

It doesn't sound as bad with mid range tone, but the bass just doesn't sound very good.

it's also an excuse to get some new PUP's so we'll see how it goes.

Could be you just don't like the Alnico 3 pups. They aren't as distinctive as the Alnico 5's. Swap out the pups and you'll feel like you just bought a new strat!

The MIM standards have ceramic pups.

My bad. Haven't had a MIM in years. Thought they used the 3's. Maybe they used to? Or am I thinking Squire?

The specs on the MIM standard on the Fender site say...Ceramic magnets.

Yes, but that's fairly new. I'm wondering what they were previously.

To me ceramic magnets is not an upgrade, don't know if they ever
used alnico magnets on MIM Standards.

Guess I should have looked years ago when I ripped the pups out of my MIM and put in Lace Sensors.
