I heard amazing things about this guitar so I decided to purchase one . It’s I a decent guitar and I’m generally happy ! However fender quality control concerns me .

My first classic player had paintwork blemishes - so I asked for a replacement one . The second one also had quality issues : slight ding on the neck , sharpish frets ( not the end of the world but it does annoy me ) ; and scratchplate with holes drilled too large ( again not the end of the world ) but I did expect a bit more frrom fender, having said all this the guitar is decent . Frets really bug me though

Anyone recently bought a CP 60s, mine is dated 2018?

Where did you buy it?
Big box retailers re-seal returns and sell them again. This is what happens when you have a no-questions-asked return policy.
Just what do you think Guitar Center et al do with all those returns? They ain't sitting in a giant Indiana Jones warehouse somewhere .

+1

One man's trash is another man's treasure.

Far be it for the manufacturers of those defective products to assume some responsibility and actually have them returned to the factory for repair.

Welcome to the forum.

While I take your point you also need to consider price point. The Classic Player isn't an Original Series or a Custom Shop. They have to save money somewhere. Even the way the instruments are handled in the factory are likely to be different.

Obviously without pictures we can't comment on paint blemishes or fret ends. Of the latter it is something I expect will need some TLC on any guitar. You can get fret sprout on a Custom Shop over time.

The thing with quality control is to control a product within specified parameters. You can have quality control in pallet manufacture, that doesn't mean they will be made of wood like a Rolls Royce dash board. There is probably an allowance within the Player range that will pass the paint finish as acceptable (for that series) with X number inclusions or blemishes.

I also agree regarding big box stores. A returned product will be checked on return and reboxed to be sold full price if the check doesn't show up any issues. Otherwise it is likely to be offered as B stock at a reduced price. Very few products, particularly at a lower price point, are returned to the factory to be stripped and remade if faulty. It isn't economic.

At least for Guitar Center, that is really not true. They commonly sell "no issue" open-box returned merchandise as such, at a discount from the original price. Further, items with cosmetic issues will also be sold as heavily discounted "blemished" items. For example, a brand new Fender Classic-Series-50s-Stratocaster sells for $925 while an open-box example sells for only $814. There are many, many such examples like this. See link.

This maybe the case with Guitar Centre. Thomman and others in the EU do B Stock items but these seldom offer more than a10% reduction.
