So I'm currently in the market for a new guitar. I recently came across the Player Series Telecaster, and for the price they sound pretty good! I have also come across a second hand Standard MIM Telecaster, priced roughly the same as the player. My question is which is better? The condition of the standard looks good overall, but I like the thought of a brand new guitar! Any recommendations or opinions are appreciated, thanks in advance!

Quality is comparable. MiM has been getting better and better as time has gone on, and many consider them to be every bit as good as US models.
The Player series has some improved features over last year such as the 2-point bridge and redesigned pickups.

If the price is within $50-100, I'd go for the new Player rather than the used model no question.
Within $150-200? That would depend on the condition of the used model... it would have to be in like-new condition (I would not buy one online)

Keep in mind that every few weeks Adorama runs sales on their remaining stock of "Standard" Strats for $399. They just had that sale on an HSS this weekend, so don't pay more than that for a Standard.
A used Standard would not be worth more than $400

I am confused. A new Player goes for $675. A used MIM Standard is going to be way less than that. Did you mean a used USA Standard? If so, get the USA Standard. If your original text was correct, then DEFINTELY get the Player, because either (1) the MIM Standdard is way overpriced, or (2) the Player is way underpriced. Either way, the final choice is the same.

THIS

MiM Standard was replaced with MiM Player (although there were Player variants previously) and the Player had a few tweaks so the Player has the edge in specification terms. Also, with ever improving manufacturing standards, the fit and finish of the new model is likely to be marginally better.

A new guitar will have new frets and a warranty so, unless the Standard is dramatically cheaper, then there is no real decision to make.

I have also come across a second hand Standard MIM Telecaster, priced roughly the same as the player.

if this is really the case, that used Tele is absurdly over priced.

on average, any used guitar, unless it's a custom shop, reissue or something unique, should be about half of what they can be bought for new. People are trying to get absurd returns on their investments, don't feed these trolls.

I'm as confused as everyone else here. The last price I remember seeing on a "NEW" MIM Standard (pre-Player Series) was $599---the first price I remember seeing on a "NEW" MIM Player is $624.99 (now $674.99).
Even from the 'get-go'...the BRAND NEW Standard has always been cheaper.

Adorama occasionally runs the Standard HSS for $399 with full warranty... blowing out their inventory.
