I purchased a new FenderAmerican Professional Stratocaster from a one of the largest online stores. I paid extra to have it Pleked and for a setup. When the guitar arrived it was not good. There was fret buzz all over the place. I tried to adjust relief and the action with no real success. The only way I could get it to play with no buzz was to set the action way too high. I have another Stratocaster that does not have this problem.

When I called the support line, they wanted me to send it back. I sent it in and they finally got back to me saying it was out of spec but there is still buzzing. The rep tired telling me that their Luthier told him that this was called "Strat Buzz" and it was normal for Strats to have this. I have 5 guitars and none of them do what this guitar did. Not even the other Strat I have. It was a strange call as he told me that both him and the Luthier felt that It was probably best for me to find another guitar as they felt I would not be happy? So they are saying this is normal but I would not be happy? Very Confusing. What is your experience with this so called "Strat Buzz" am I expecting to much from a new $2,000 Strat? Does this Luthier know what he is talking about? I almost feel that the Plek Process messed the frets up? I have had guitars that have had zero set up arrive in better condition.

It's one of those illusive issues with all guitars and probably one of the #1 reasons people return new guitars.

And Plek,, take it for what it's worth.. the machine does what it does, but much of it depends on who is running it. my last purchase was a Guild F1512 12 string. The fret job on that guitar out of the box was horrific. I had to have it leveled off (old school by someone who is beyond excellent) before I could really use it for much.,, dead spots everywhere, and Guild says it was plek'd.. so go figure.

Also You didn't tell us if this is a maple or rose wood fretboard?

IME my fenders with maple fretboards tend to be a bit nosier than my rosewoods. and it em hard enough they will ALL buzz. Not just a fender..

Where you have other strats, you're saying you never hear the same level of buzz? Are they similar in regards to setup and config? What gauge strings are you using.

are you basing this on playing it unplugged? how much of this "Buzz" gets amplified?

Thanks for the reply. Both Stratocasters have the same spec. When The new one arrived I really tried to get it as close to my older one as I could. I had to raise the action way higher to get it to not buzz. Im using 9's and both are Rosewood fret boards. I tried 10's but that did nothing.

strange, It's the kind of thing we're you'd have to see it to know more of what's going on.

usually neck relief can make a diff if there's spots where the buzzing seems more prominent, but if it's all over the neck... hmm,, I suppose you can't rule out high frets either, you'd think the plek would have taken care of that but, as I saw, I did need some work on my 12 string to get it right. not sure how much you need to hassle with a new guitar, are you out of exchange period? maybe try another?

First port of call; spend £5 on a fret rocker. It wont cure anything but it might give some clues.

Return it for a refund then, with cash in hand, walk away.

That sales rep and his lap-dog luthier are jerking you off!

I wasn't aware that Sweetwater/Guitar Center/Sam Ash/Musician's Friend even owned a Plek machine or offered the service.

Sweetwater CLAIMS to.

I agree with the "return and walk away". Take that 2 grand to a Guitar Store, and physically play the guitars that capture your interest, and take the one home that fits your needs. I have bought $500 guitars 'sight unseen' and have gotten lucky, but I would never take my chances on spending 2K...even with a generous no questions asked return policy---but that's just me; that's a lot of money to me.

Sweetwater does have plek machine, I got that from the sales guy I've been working with for a number of years now. Don't ask me how I found out...
