Hello again guys

First of all I want to apologise for lot of new topics. I am looking for guitar for myself and I want to be sure that the model I'm interested in is an original. The model I'm interested in is a Fender Stratocaster Reissue 1962, Japan made, serial number N09622. Unfortunately I only have experience with Mexican models and I'm really looking forward to your opinions about Japanese fenders from that period.

Looks more real that the red one you posted yesterday…

But every time one needs to ID a MIJ/CIJ Strat, it's time to strip - the guitar, that is. The neck pocket/end usually have some markings (on this one, I'd expect to see a ST-62 stamp plus something more), and pics of the electronics/wiring can help diagnosing (legit/original/model).

Agreed.
I see nothing that makes me suspicious, but I would not buy it with only these images.

One thing is strange for me
If I type serial number to this site:
https://www.guitardaterproject.org/fender.aspx
It shows 1993 - 1994
When I use official fender site
https://www.fender.com/product-registra ... ial-search
It shows "Sorry, no results for..."

Im little confused because a lot of sites said that after 1995 fender start marking necks by "crafted in japan"
This one is 1993 - 1994

Like they say on the Fender support page (the "How can I find out when my Japanese-made instrument was manufactured?" one):
Quote:
Records on early Japanese-made Fender instruments are not complete and are therefore not completely definitive for dating purposes. As always, serial numbers should only be used as a guide for dating and should be used in combination with known age-related specifications to help identify the production year of an instrument.

There is quite a lot of confusion with the "Crafted" vs. "Made". There are serial numbers which are reused. There are absolutely legit&original Fenders/Squiers with a serial which (by Fender's support pages rules) shouldn't exist. Even the MIA records go back to only about 1993. On top of all that, some fakes have a serial number from a legit FMIC instrument - on rare occasions, even from a "similar" model. Etc.
So, it's the old expect the unexpected with Fenders again.
And: a serial number alone does not tell much about an instrument's legit/original status.

There are earlier Crafted in Japan instruments than the "official" 1997 on Fender pages say, and this guitar most likely is one of those - I'd say made by the non-FujiGen factories, after 1992 but before 1997. And a lot of Japanese instruments are missing from the database, so that 'no results' is nothing unusual or alarming.

The non-Fender guitar dating databases (like that guitardaterproject) don't (well, at least as far as I'm aware) have access to Fender's records. They rely on general rules, mostly based on what Fender support pages say, plus some added info on "what's generally known"; like some factory names - usually right, but often wrong.

So, with this guitar. If the price is right and you absolutely love it, it's time for that autopsy. AlNiCo or ceramic pickups? What kind of switch? Markings in the neck pocket/heel/body routings? (And BTW, does a magnet stick to that trem block? Don't degauss the pickups while testing, though…)
If the seller refuses, walk away - there are plenty of nineties guitars available.

A short answer: no. IMHO, of course.

The font with "Crafted In Japan" looks odd.
I haven't seen that font used before.

The rest of the guitar looks Kosher.

This site has a good array of Fender Japan catalogues that can be somewhat helpful ID'ing model stamps.

Those 500 and 900 suffixes seem weird, a typo perhaps?

The Japanese told the price in yens along with the model; for example in the 1994 catalogue ST62-110 means the price was 110 000 ¥ and it was the high end model; ST62-53 cost 53 000 ¥, and was the cheapest model. Basically same guitars with same build quality and QC, but with different embellishments; from wood to finish to pickups to hardware.
[The 95 (000¥) model even had Lace Sensors and a mid boost; so in fact it's a Japanese Clapton model without the signature status...]

So, that's why I wanted to know more about the insides of the guitar, they might help ID the exact model.

@stratmangler, I could swear I've seen that font before - may have been on a post-1997 guitar, but anyways.

I had a little look around the 'net after I posted, and found a few with that same font, so my suspicion was unfounded.
As I said, the guitar looks to be kosher, unlike the red monstrosity the OP posted up pics of a few days ago.

+1

It's a gorgeous specimen but the rich, dark rosewood of that black guitar is hard to resist.

Buy them both!
