I just bought an American Strat and the tremolo seems really low. It's almost laying flat on the guitar. I need to raise it to the standard height. How would I go about doing this? Thanks

The tremolo height is based on a balance between the string tension and the tension of the springs in the back of the guitar. Basically, you need to let the tremolo claw out on the back of the guitar. There are a lot of good threads on how to do this, just run a search and see what you can find.

If you change the trem height it changes the string height and intonation.
I recommend taking it to a Tech and having a complete set up done on it.

Fenders standard is here 1/8" gap between body and bridge.
Loose the claw backside step by step, tune and check if you get the gap you want to.

Good luck :D

Hey, he's gotta learn how to do it himself. Let him try to set it up (float height, intonation, and string height) .... if he can't get it together, then take it to a good Tech.

I find it's a lot of trial and error when trying to adjust the float height. A lot of: adjust the claw screw, retune it, check the height, adjust the claw screw, retune it, check the height, and so on and so on. Once the height is where you want it, then adjust the intonation and the string heights.

Measure the string heights before you start any of this so you can get then back to levels you like (assuming you like them).
