As many of you know I always try to recommend Guitar Gear that I have used/own when a question comes about it.
Please don't look at this as spam, but as a heads up on a product that I use and highly recommend.

My friend Jim Wagner makes pickups for a living ( www.wcrguitar.com ) and he does a fabulous job of hand winding his pups. Normally he just makes Humbuckers, HOWEVER once a year he makes 30 sets of Strat single coil pups called "SR's". I have a set in my 1986 MIJ "72RI Strat and let me tell you these pups a great!!!! They are hotter than traditional single coils but can get a wide range of tones that many of us would kill for.
You can hear some sound files on Jim's myspace http://www.myspace.com/wcr_guitar
When I last spoke to Jim a few days ago he had already pre-sold 15 sets, so there are only 15 sets left.
A fair warning, be serious about your tone before you contact Jim as these pups are not inexpensive. But they are well worth it.

Jim recently started selling wiring kits and components too: http://www.wcrguitar.com/Wiring_kits.html

Sounds interesting. I was thinking of changing the pups in my les paul here soon, so I may look into his work.

I have his BetSet with the Peter Green mod in my LP and love it.

I have an SR set in my 1986 Fender MIJ '72 RI Strat. In my opinion they are probably the best after market Strat pickups available. I would not recommend them if I didn't think they were good.
