I have a 2000 Am Deluxe I bought new which came with a LSR nut. It recently started going out of tune badly when using the whammy bar.
Looking closely at the LSR nut I can't see any visible signs or missing balls or tabs etc...
I understand its almost 20 years since I first bought this guitar and have no problem replacing the lsr nut if that what it needs.
I'm pretty sure the string is binding(especially the g, but slightly so on and e also) at the nut. I'm thinking that I'll replace the nut but wanted to see if I can find some more info. Could hardly find any info on google on similar issue.

Do these nuts typically need some maintenance and do these just wear out and need replacement?

Any contact points will wear eventually, try a light dab of cleaner/lubricant w/ a Q-tip.
A complete replacement if required is available from Fender or other sources for $35-$50 US.

I think the bearings could be replaced w/ 10/32nd stainless bearings, but cleaner and lubricant will likely solve most issues.
