Curious if any of you have shielded your strat using copper foil tape and if it made a noticeable difference? My strat is loaded with the Pure Vintage 59s. The middle is not reverse wound and they can be pretty noisey. I really like the idea of the Suhr system but I have no desire to spend $250 on it.

It's just the nature of single coil pickups.
It will make some difference, but it's not going to make it as quiet as a humbucker.
Some have reported no noticeable difference. Your environment makes a difference... computers, lighting, even phones generate noise.
Fender guitars *are* shielded from the factory since the end of the 70s using shielding paint and a grounding lug by the bridge pickup.

Reissues, Classic Series, some Signature models aren't factory shielded. And shielding on MIM's started in the 21st century.

And on many models/years, they spray the body paint over the shielding paint, and ground the shielding precariously with a wood screw and a toothed washer. Not uncommon to have no connection.

(Moving the screw to a fresh location may help. Some people carefully scrape away the body finish to reveal a bare patch of shielding paint.)

There are people who claim copper, aluminum, and conductive paint have different effectiveness.

Shielding should always help. But strong nearby noise sources can be so bad that "quieter" is sometimes still noisy.

My '99 MIM Classic only had a triangular foil patch over the control area. (Just like my '75 had.)

Just covering the whole back of the guard with aluminum foil made a huge difference -- good enough for me.

Having grown up with unshielded single-coils, it's second nature for me to find the quieter spots. Step back, turn a little sideways, lean back in the chair -- there are positions that are noisier than others. Full size guard shield makes the quieter spots bigger.

(Many Strats have larger foil patches that surround the pickups and wire channel. That may be just as good -- I have no experience with those.)
