Hey all , I'm building a partscaster (which started as upgrades to a Squier , but will now be a completely new guitar) . I ordered a set of Fat 50's and was curious about one of these. Any thoughts?

I haven't tried the pre-wired kits, but I have tried the Emerson Pro pots. As far as I can tell, they're a re-badged version of the CTS vintage pot - the one with the dimple back - and seem to be really well made. They're low torque, so very quick and easy to adjust on the fly, which is why I wanted to try them.

The thing I wasn't keen on was that they use a 'vintage' audio taper, so the majority of the volume or tone change is at the bottom of the range (1-4), with minimal effect after that all the way through to 10. I found I couldn't get on with this, so I went back to 'modern' audio taper CTS pots instead. These have a more progressive adjustment over the 1-10 range, which is what I like. Slightly higher torque, but I guess I'll live with that.

As ever, your taste may vary and this is just my view.

If you can't solder, those kit may be good at twice the price of separate parts....

Mmm - I was going to say this. Seems a lot of bread for what you get, even here across the pond where we pay through the nose for US parts.

Cheers - Peter.

Sorry for the late reply. I thought it was a bit pricey although it includes a switchcraft jack and price is in CAN.$ so take off at least 25% for US.$
