I don't mean to nit pick but someone please correct me if I am wrong....

Regarding the David Gilmour Strat specifications

Adding a mini toggle will not give you an additional 3 positions.

On my Strat, I added a mini toggle and it gave me two, for a total of 7.

Fender lists the picking switching as:

5-Position Blade:
Position 1. Bridge Pickup
Position 2. Bridge and Middle Pickup
Position 3. Middle Pickup
Position 4. Middle and Neck Pickup
Position 5. Neck Pickup

1 Mini-Toggle (Adds Neck Pickup in Positions 1, 2 and 3.)

For the mini toggle, it will only add position 1 & 2 - 3 is redundant due to it being available in position 4 - Correct??

well it will work in three positions but when in position three (Middle Pickup) you get middle neck same as position four so it works but all you get is something you already have....

I almost wonder if it wires it differently, where as position 4 is normally middle and neck in parallel, maybe with the toggle it has them wired in series? To my understanding, the tone would be slightly different, but one would eliminate hum while the other wouldn't?

When I did my configuration I used a simple bridge pick-up (On/Off) toggle. My guitar works normally with the toggle off. If I turn it on the bridge is activated regardless of the selector switch's position, it allows the bridge pick-up to bypass the 5-pos switch completely. It gives me the two additional tones. (Bridge & Neck + Bridge & Middle & Neck)

I ran a wire from the selector's bridge IN contact - to one of the toggle contacts. From the other toggle contact, I ran a wire to the selector's OUTPUT contact. It did not change any of the existing wiring; it just adds a simple on/off bypass switch for the Bridge.

As for the grounding, I coated the entire cavity with copper tape and ran separate grounds to one master grounding point. Each strip of tape was spot soldered so there's a continuous ground throughout. It made a big difference!!

Excluding series/parallel, in/out of phase, and other exotic permutations, the three pickups of a Strat can give a total of seven different basic combinations. Five of which are available from a regular five-way switch. Just as you say.

So happens our Maximum Leader, Brad, is the very person who can alter the specs elsewhere on this site if they are indeed wrong. If he sees this thread and agrees with you that adjustment will likely occur.

If you don't want to trust to that, contact him direct and let him know your concern.

Cheers - C
