I have some older Fender Strat Squier Affinity Guitars that have great quality and playability. I want to make some modifications to one to make it different. I don’t want to spend a lot of money, just have some fun working on the guitar and trying something relatively easy and different. Anyone have any ideas for recommended mods, like pickup or electronics changes, anything else you found improved the sound, playbility or pickups (example installing a hot rail in the bridge spot)? Let me hear about your favorite mods! Thanks

New and better pickups is the only way to go IMO ; it is a lot of money to put on a Squier you can buy from $250 to $500

Assuming it has a light weight pot metal trem block then change it for a steel one.

Trem Block was a good suggestion. Then pickups ... Fender Tex Mex or GFS are both affordable options, and would be a big improvement.

You want to keep your Squier and have a better tone ?

Buy a good amp. Wich amp do you have ? With Squier guitar you may have a low budget amp. :(
Amp is more than 75% of the sound, guitar less than 25%

You have a good amp, replace the pickups first.
