Hi can anyone give me a clue what I have here... I got this guitar a few years ago from a friend and 8 finally took it off the wall and looked at it. I had no clue what I was dealing with because I thought it was a old knockoff replica. Then I got the itch to check it out the other day and I saw it could actually be a Stratocaster body and electrics but with a replacement neck. It looks like a 1 ply pickguard and and the pickup codes look authentic. Everything looks real old but then I take off the neck and it says "12 May8 2000'... There's some other numbers and letters... One code that starts with an F or something. This is the first time posting here so I'm clueless as to add pictures but I'm going to try and link to Tumblr if that works... So if anyone can sprout some wisdom on this mystery I would be super happy! Thanks

Update: this guitar was totally thrashed at one point. I just cleaned it out and found a lot of damage... I basically had to fix the whole neck heel by regluing the whole back piece that was cracked out at one point. But I'm still trying to figure out what type of body it is... 8 hole pickguard made in 2000 probably... Is it a repro of a 60s style vintage strat?

Hi & sorry for the late answer; probably the first-poster-delay-for-spam-fighting policy again...

The pics are a way too low-res to give anything definitive - like, I can guess the pickup bobbins number, but can't really read those.
The body, pickups, bridge could be from a MIM, maybe the "50'S Stratocaster, 013-1002" body, in black it would be part number 0054166506. IMHO, that's not the original neck - and (sorry, but) the mutilated headstock looks absolutely horrible.

So, to get further: better resolution pics, whole shots front & back, headstock/tuners details, routings, wiring etc.

To post pics straight on the forum:
Quote:
First you need to upload your pics to the internet. Use a pic hosting site (imgur, imgbb or such - avoid photobucket) or some common web framework like e.g. facebook, googlephotos - whatever you're familiar with.
The important thing is that the web site provides you with a pic address - that's the one starting with 'http' or 'https' and ending in '.jpg' .

Copy the pic address, and use the IMG-command (visible when you write a message) on the forum.

Preview your post so everything is OK.

The 12th fret dot markers are too far apart for a Fender neck.
The sunburst doesn't look like a Fender one either.

Agreed.
Best case, neck is a Squier Korean or Indonesian neck *if* it is actually a Fender product.
That dot inlay size and spacing at the 12th fret is very common among Asian Fender-style necks.
The cut-off headstock may have been done in an attempt to conceal the true original shape not matching Fender designs.

Edit: I didn't even notice the sunburst due to the poor resolution.
Fender would normally have a thinner, even black burst around the perimeter.
A common treatment on the Korean laminated bodies was to have the proper width of black around most of the body, but hide the laminations by blacking out the belly and elbow relief cuts.
But I've also seen this done on non-Fenders by making the dark area too wide, with the rear completely dark instead of burst.

Thanks for responding... The guitar seems like someone pulled a Pete Townshend on it lol. Totally smashed the neck off... The heel cavity had extensive repair at one point plus I had to fix it again. That's a junk neck that someone just threw on there though. The rest of the body I'm thinking is a Stratocaster because of the electronics parts numbers. I don't know much about them so I'm just making a guess. If anything I am going to put a strat style neck on it and just be done with it at this point. It's in the mail already lol. 40 bucks I can't go wrong. I was just wondering if I should have bought a real strat neck for it so it would be all stock at least. But the body isn't in awesome shape. I'm figuring since the neck pocket was damaged that bad I'm going to lose a bunch of tone anyway. And worse comes to worse I'll just get another body for that cheap neck... Superstrat it ain't! Haha... But one day... :-)

Oh Thank You for the picture uploading help! I haven't really been in forums in a while and totally forgot how to link images. I guess it's true... If you don't use it you lose it! ;-) I really appreciate it.

Yea, and me calling the body black... (2-tone sunburst part number for the 50's Strat is 0054165503).

On the neck; some MIJ's (60's style) had a real wide dot spacing - but on this guitar, can't say one way or another.

Anyways, I like "wreck" guitars, too. And this clearly is not a fake-Fender-sold-as-legit case. It's a survivor.
So, just set it up and play on, play LOUD.
