You might need to do a bit of woodwork.

That said, the American Performer tuners are not vintage tuners per se, as vintage tuners would be screwed to the back of the headstock, and the bushings on the front would be push fit.
You might find that a set of locking tuners would be drop in.

Can be tricky since you need at least to drill two mount holes for each tuner.
Look around for vintage locking tuners instead but check the tuner hole size b4 ordering. :)

I'm not sure this is correct as the American Performer Tuners are a modern tuner with a vintage style split post and vintage looking case. They aren't a Kluson type tuner which fixes from the rear but a modern screw in ferrule two pin fixing. My assumption is they will be a straight swap as I can't imagine Fender would want the logistical headache of of a third tuner mount drilling. I am hoping this to be the case so that I can fit them to my modern necked guitars when they become available as a part.

They're good looking tuners!
On reflection I too suspect that they comply with the modern Fender spec.

Why do you want to change the tuners, Stjani O?

Cool! They were not available last time I looked.
Maybe they will release a locking version soon.

Im not set on changing them out just looking at all options. I think I got lucky on this one, plays incredibly well, I tried out a few performers that felt not so great, this one I just completely fell for. I’m planning to change the Yosemite pickups to something more modern/hard rock even metal, SD everything axe set/dimarzio injectors...

Out of interest, what's wrong with the Yosemites? I've only read the Guitarist review, which didn't enlighten me too much!

Sounds like you might've been better buying the previous version of the Performer - the American Special. Similar guitar, but with meatier Texas Specials. Cheaper too! I've gone the Everything Axe route (with different but similar SD p/ups) and you'll find your Strat doesn't sound like a Strat anymore. That of course may be fine for you.

Buying a new guitar and then changing major stuff on it (or considering it) makes me wonder - have you just bought the wrong guitar?!

Cheers - Peter.

Well, I have been wanting a Stratocaster for a while and finally found one that feels just right in my hands, had tried a few performers, American professional and a few players series. There was just something with this one.
The Yosemite pickups are good, nothing wrong with them, i wasn’t really going for the strat sound, wanted a special Fender ( playability and feel) and found one. Can always swap pickups back.
