the answer? IS a strat! i realized i can make use of 4 effects pedals in one guitar, without the pedals. course it's not as good as pedals, it can still be used. this only makes the strat more awesome. this could be done on any guitar though,

vibrato: your whammy bar or your fret hand

tremolo: the volume control- move it up and down

wah (neck and middle positions only): place tone control at zero, move up and down quickly, it takes time but you'll hear it!

ANd my favorite:

the univibe!: move tone control up and down slowly; like wah, except much slower

i had to share this with all of you guys and see what you think!

it's my greatest discovery of the strat. just found out now, hope it works for you! it should cuz all strats have these controls (most, anyway)

BTW, this can also be possible for the pickup selector switch

rock on!

Word Man,

Yeah lots of effects are based on shortcuts to techniques. Tremolo effects replace tremolo picking/strumming. A wah pedal is really just a tone pot in a rocker-pedal, etc. etc. A Strat is a really versatile instrument in terms of what the pickup choices and controls will allow you to do. There are rudiments to guitar-playing that everyone needs; good strumming rhythm, proper hand-position and chord-changing, finger-vibrato technique, etc. That's how you become a GUITAR player. Becoming a STRAT player on the other hand is a massive stone of nuance you can only really start chipping away at once you've got the basic fundamentals of the guitar itself worked out.

Also, think about setting the tone controls one high, one low and switching quickly from pup to pup for some cool sounds. Also if you have a Strat with the S-1 Switch (American Deluxe, etc.) turn your volume and tone knobs up and try pushing that S-1 switch in and out rapidly at each position on the selector switch. You can get some cool sounds that way too.
