Hi, I’d appreciate some help please.
My Stratocaster has developed a buzz specifically at G#. So it’s on the 6th string 4th fret, or 5th fret if tuned down a semitone, the 5th open string tuned down a semitone, the third string first fret. I took it into the shop and the technician “tightened up things” but I didn’t speak to them personally, only through the salesperson. I’ve emailed them again. It’s not the amp by the way. My father in law, a classical guitar luthier, has looked at the frets and these look ok, but in any case a raised fret would not cause the problem as described above,
I think something is loose somewhere in the guitar and resonating on this frequency. Is this something any of you recognise please?
Thanks
Neil

I wouldn't like to suggest one of several possible reasons without hands-on. If you can't do a setup yourself (follow Fender's instructions), or it still does it after you've had a go, I suggest finding a GOOD luthier/tech and paying a few quid for a setup. Although I'm capable of doing a setup, I find a pro does such a cracking job it's worth paying for.

Clearly the bloke in the shop wasn't up to it. The 'technician' who you couldn't speak to was probably the salesman you did speak to!

Cheers - Peter.

To rule out fret buzz and confirm that it is some resonance in the guitar, get a metal rod, such as a screwdriver, and run it under the string so it "frets" the note without actually depressing the string, and tune to G#.
With fret buzz issues ruled out, use a flexible tube in your ear and "probe" the body and neck with the other end to find where the noise seems to be coming from.

Lol UK English cracks me up. What exactly is a “cracking job?”

Thanks for comments so far. I like the idea of using a stethoscope to locate the problem, and meanwhile I’ve located a luthier whi seems to know his stuff.

Could be several different things; a bad string, un-level saddles, loose tuning post, nut friction, loose pot/switch.
I would do a string change and check/tighten everything. Also, I would check the amp speaker nuts, beauty washers, etc. for tightness as specific frequencies reverberate everywhere across the fretboard.
