I have narrowed down my list to a somewhat select list of Stratocasters I'm looking at. Unfortunately not all of them are abled to be played/tested against each other, so I was hoping for some forum help. My main criteria is something I won't really feel is inadequate and the best bang for my $. I can afford all of theses guitars but don't want to spend the extra money for a particular model if its not really worth it.

List:

New/Lightly Used Classic Player 60s = ~$650-850

Lightly used Am. Std (Fat 50s model) = ~$900-$1050

2014 60th Anniversary Am. Std (CS 54 Pus & Compound Neck model) = $1100-1200

Thoughts?

“Best for the Buck” is such a subjective thing. Based on your criteria I would opt for the lightly used American Standard. I have one. The build quality is excellent and the tone is terrific……to my ear.

My advice would be don’t compromise. Spend what you need to get the guitar you really want or it will fall out of favour in time and you will replace it. That ends up costing more. I speak from experience.

The answers don't really change from your previous thread.

You won't know if the guitar works for you unless you play it. We could say XXXXX is great and then you get one which has an unusually heavy body (which I would hate) or has been badly set up, or has a dead neck, or something else. Two guitars of the same type, year, production run, specification, will be different, it is up to you if it is a different that you prefer.

Buying unseen is always a gamble and the odds on you bonding with that guitar are greatly diminished. I would suggest you absolutely don't do it for your first Strat, particularly if the intention is it will be a keeper. It is a different matter when you have several already which you considering changing. If the newcomer doesn't come up to scratch then (if you bought well) you shouldn't loose out too badly selling it on.

I’m probably just going to buy one in excellent or mint condition on reverb. Unfortunely my shop only has the American Pro and some lower level Mexicans and not really any of the in between Mexicans. I liked the American Pro and a very old Am STD but can’t try the others.

Mostly looking for a Pro/con comparison to help me get the best info. I think I’m mostly stuck between the 60s and 2014 commemorative, but I’d consider the fat 50s Am std if I found a truly outstanding deal.
