Hello friends,

I have a used Stratocaster that was given to me a few years ago from someone that already had it for many years.
I have the intention to sell it but I don't understand much about the subject and that is why I ask for your help identifying its specifications and potential price.

The only thing I can share is the photos provided in the link below.

Thank you very much in advance.

Best regards,
João Silva

That guitar is fake, I don't think there is one single FMIC-made part in it. Price could be around 25-50$£€, if everything works perfectly.

No, no, no, no - you're just being lazy.
If you get the pic address (starts http ot https, ends jpg), you can use the forum's IMG command to get pics showing straight on the forum.

I think you might struggle to even give it away.

The neck plate is genuine.... but from a bass ;)

It's not a "fake". It's not a Fender, but it doesn't have Fender logos where the audience can see them -- it's not claiming to be a Fender. (The neckplate doesn't really count as any sort of serious attempt to mislead.)

It's a real partsocaster.

Budget parts, but not utter crap. Neck looks like Mighty Mite. Wilkinson pickups are in the same league as GFS or Tone Rider. Probably plays and sounds as good or better than most MIM Standards.

And the "relic"ing seems to be "real". Worn because someone loved playing it, not because someone attacked it with sandpaper.

Partsocasters have low resale, especially when they're assembled from budget parts. The price estimates are about right.

But monetary value isn't everything. Just the sentimental memories of your friend giving it to you, and the thousands of hours you've enjoyed playing it are priceless.

Just don't tell people you have a "Fender Strat". It's not that. Instead, proudly tell people you've got a custom made "Strat style" guitar.

I thought all MM necks had plastic in the truss rod opening..?

Anyways, I agree with your "monetary value isn't everything" thoughts.
And I apologize if my first reply sounded cold - but price level was asked, and there is the Fender logo'd neck plate. Plus, I was Monday morning irritated about having to click for pics.

BTW, I chose the example pic to back up my price estimate; see the low-E post.

I agree with this. I don't like the scratchplate, but otherwise the relicing looks as good as any (if you like it that heavy), and the general Strat shape looks about right, from what I can see.

OK, it's not a Strat, but I'd just fix the bits that have to be fixed in order to play it (like the obvious E tuner), and then play it. Even though I don't have any SLO's myself, it looks like it might be fun...

Cheers - Peter.

The neck plate by itself is likely worth more than the rest of the whole guitar. Clearly, the best (and likely 'only') bet is to try to salvage it into a nice playing guitar (which is at least maybe possible). If the OP is not a guitar player, then maybe just give it to a friend who is.

If I was that friend I don't know that I would thank you. I have enough Strats and this would require money spending on it to make it usable.

Perhaps put it on eBay as "Old Relic Stratocaster Type Guitar Project" starting at 25 £/$/E. Someone might feel the Mojo or a builder might jump at it for parts and bid it up.

He's speaking in some forgotten British dialect. Google translates those words to "where's my wallet?"

I thought that might happen. :-)

The issue I am finding is I like to play the living **** out of my favourites - authentic wear through use etc. etc. As a result the guitars which aren't seeing the love just sit there and glower at me. If I do play them I then find myself frustrated as I am just doing it for the sake of it and not playing the favourites. I have tried distributing guitars in different rooms, even houses, but the same thing happens if I have more than one available at the time....I have tried setting up different guitars with different tuning, but the same thing happens. So I have concluded I have too many Strats....but I don't have too many Teles that I really like ;-)

Thank you guys.

I didn't even think about it not being a Strat but then again, I am just about as much an expert on guitars as I am on forum posts (sorry about the link).

For that value, I'll probably keep it and give it in the future to a kid eager to learn.

All the best for you,
João Silva
