Hey all,

New here so sorry if this is the wrong place. A buddy gave me this Strat because it was worth nothing to him and I wanted to build up some skills setting up and working on guitars. It doesn't have a serial number but it definitely feels 'entry level'

Just curious if someone could tell me what year range its from and maybe what country these come from.

Thanks!

Hi & welcome to the forum. Someone might say this topic belongs to the Squier section, but let's not pay attention to that.

Squier Strat models resemble one another a lot, and specs & features (like headstock shape, fret count, string trees, logo, serial number placement...) can at one period belong to one model, then with different manufacturer to another. So, without any serial, or any aiding from the background info, this ain't easy...

I'll throw in a wild guess, to see if someone with better knowledge can confirm/deny. Could be a pack ("SE") Strat, from 2000 (… give or take five years...), made in Indonesia.
BTW, on some (though few) Squiers, there can be some additional hints in the neck pocket/heel.

Hard to tell from the pictures.
If the body is laminated (plywood), I'd say it's an early-mid 90s from Korea. Look for a ||||||| texture on the sides of the trem cavity.
No serial number or date of any kind is troubling, but I can't see someone going to the effort of building a partscaster and trying to pass it off as a Squier. The trem cover plate is also interesting in that the two middle holes line up... normally they are offset, but other than that, the cover plate looks right for a mid 90s Squier.
Those things might point to it being a "kit" guitar that came with an amp.

In a 'learning, not arguing' spirit...

I'd say most Squiers come with the middle trem cover screws level, but there are also some with offset screws. And that feature (too…) can vary inside the same model name.

On a mid-nineties MIK, I'd expect some plastic in the truss rod hole.

What's the body thickness on this one?

And I just noticed this has a laminated PG... my '93 was all white.
