Hey there,

I have a red stratocaster with white pickguard (Not alot info but who cares anyway, this topic is about pickguards) and I was wondering what were the best ways to customize your pickguard, without changing pickguard. What I mean by that is by painting, carving, etc. (No, not stickers)

Basically I'd like to paint/draw on it (And might be enclined to carve the drawings in it if I can find a way to incorporate shiny powder in the ''scratches'')

I wanted to know your tips on what to use to do so, and which techniques are the best.

Thanks in advance,

-Jean Paray

Somewhere on this site (try a search) there is a link to several customized guards including one made from a printed circuit board. It seems that the possibilities are endless.

A quick google brought up this link with some cool ideas too :

I've searched a bit around and so far all I've seen is either showoff of what people did or custom pickguards up for sell. Nowhere have I found tips of how to paint it myself, which is what I want to do.

Check with your local luthier to see if he/she has any old, discarded pickguards. They may have old cracked, warped, or faded ones that you can have for free to experiment with before you start on your own. Then post pictures of your work for all of us to see!

This is the first thing that springs to my mind for a tough finish.
