OK, I've been lurking in the background reading, and I keep seeing a reference to MIM and MIA. I did a search, and all I found were more references to MIM and MIA. What do these terms mean?

Right. And to which we can add:

MIJ = Made in Japan
CIJ = Crafted in Japan

And I've once or twice seen

MIC = Made in China

Not yet seen

MIK = Made in Korea, though several worthwhile instruments come from there...

pup = pickup

Some common abbreviations seen for some Strat sig models off of the top of my head
EJ = Eric Johnson
JV = Jimmy Vaughan
EC = Eric Clapton

Also, there are tons of pup abbreviations. You are on your own there.

One is spelled M - A - D- E
And the other is spelled C - R - A - F - T - E - D

There is no diffeerence except the time period they were made.

I think it's for marketing purposes. I don't know for sure, but squier uses crafted in indonesia/china to make it sound 'quality-like'; it's a connotative term. crafted sounds better than made. would you rather have a guitar made somewhere or 'CRAFTED' somewhere :).

It wasn't all that long ago I didn't know the alphabet soup either. There are some great people in here, and my understanding of all things Strat has improved tremendously just by my asking questions.

Rock until you drop.
