Hi all

I have a strat and I'm hoping to get an idea of its value. I've contacted Fender and have been told it's a FSR American Series from 2003. Model number is 017-0013-(700). There were only 100 of them made. In overall very good condition with one or two very small dings. On the plus side though the plastic wrap cover is still on the scratchplate.

Any further info on the guitar and / or an idea of value would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

But to Staithe7, you really don't give us much to go on. How about some pics?
And: didn't you get the specs list from Fender?

Not wishing to disillusion you but FSRs aren't necessarily that special. Any Fender outlet can commission a run of guitars to a non standard specification, that they think will sell, and it will get the FSR sticker. I don't know what the minimum quantity for an FSR run is but I wouldn't anticipate 1 of 100 to be especially unusual.

As always, sale price is what someone is willing to pay. If someone has a special affinity for that FSR (perhaps they once had one) you might get a good price. Otherwise, I would think the guitar will be worth similar to any other non FSR. It might even harm the value subject to what makes the guitar unusual.

I agree, FSR guitar worth not more than any Fender American made guitar

Ok, thanks for the info, I've learnt a lot. I thought it was a limited edition special run from Fender direct, not a run made for a shop. So I'm guessing there are loads of these shop order special runs out there?

Can't upload photos at the moment as am on my phone with a very slow connection and limited data. When that changes I'll get photos on here.

I did indeed get specs from Fender. Would they help to value the guitar? I've copied them below for you all to see. The guitar also has a 50th anniversary sticker on it.

Pretty much meaningless.
In 1979, Fender made the 25th Anniversary Strat. That was a unique special run that incorporated what they felt were the best features of the last 25 years... they basically made a '79 Strat without the bullet truss rod adjuster and underwound pickups, painted it silver, and stuck a decal on the body.
For the 35th, 40th, 50th, and 60th, they had similar specific "Anniversary" models that sold for a premium price, but *ALL* models got some kind of notation... I call the 40th the "Label Pin". Other years just got a sticker on the back of the headstock. That just means that it's a 2004.

Out of those specs, the only thing special is the tortoise PG and the modified electronics. Nothing that many owners didn't do on their own, and certainly nothing that makes it of any special value. It's not like a '69 Yenko Camaro with a 427.
As stated, FSR is simply a special run that Fender did for companies like Guitar Center, Sweetwater, etc.... All you had to do was commit to buying a minimum run and they'd do it... you would have an "exclusive" that no other store had. In theory, someone with $100,000 to blow could have their own personal FSR made.
