Hi,
Ive just started building my own guitar, and fancied making my own body, i went with a kinda SG shape, but to make an actual SG is a real ballache, so ive decided to make a strat with a random body. I've ordered a pre-weird pick-guard, but im not a fan of pick-guards in general as it is a resin river body and i dont want to hide it. What is the best way to install HSS config in what is basically a body blank without a pick-guard. I have access to general tools and am a decent solderer, and i havent routed any holes in the body yet

A SG body is thinner than a strat body. Ok if you don't want a Strat tremolo.
To make a nice pickups cavity with no pickguard , it is not a easy job.

If you are asking the question then perhaps it is best don't do it.

Because the router bit and collar are relative you would be better making your own template. Make it out of ½" plastic/ply/MDF, or thinner and pack off. I would do a template for all three PUPs together on the body as it is easier to attach one large piece than small template. And as for attaching with double sided tape! LMAO!

Once armed with a template you can trial on some scrap before committing to the actual job so you will know exactly what to expect.

Remember that, if you are top mounting the PUPs you will need enough depth of body remaining to get a reasonable screw fixing.

Direct mounted pickups look awesome, but they are also the most difficult, especially single coils, because the routing must be very precise and the cavity needs to be completely finished.
The easiest way to go with limited skills is to use mounting rings. It doesn't hide much more of the body than direct mounting, but is more forgiving of mistakes with the router, and the cavity can be painted with black shielding paint and the edges don't need the attention to detail.
Pickup mounting rings for flat-top bodies are available in chrome, black, and gold metal.

Also note that this isn't an SG style body. That was his initial intent, but he ended up doing a Strat-like body.

But what is a "resin river body"? Is that a material? A body style? I'm not familiar with that phrase.

If the OP has skills to do that, I think he can handle routings.

Thats the video i watched when i was first looking into it lol. I think ive attached a photo of it, although the body is the back of it Image
and the front Image

as for hardware this is what ive gone for:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07 ... UTF8&psc=1
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01 ... UTF8&psc=1

I like the idea of mounting rings, for them would all i need to do be cut a rectangle out of the body for each pickup, then cut another hole at the back to put all of the other electronics in and drill a hole to connect them all?
