Greetings all,
I recently purchased my fourth Strat and it is a beautiful MIM white Strat/maple neck with an SSS setup. This is my first Strat with an SSS setup, my 3 other Strats 2 MIA and 1 MIM are HSS.

My new Strat has a very warm and full tone in the the neck and center position and it sings incredible from these positions. The bridge is excellent for lead and rhythm work and who ever said you can't play metal through a single coil is full of Sh**t! I manage to pull of some pretty chunky riffs, perhaps this Strat is a rare freak that came of the assembly line. My questions to you fellow Strat users is, while there is some hum in the single coils in my HSS Strats this new Strat tends to hum very loud in the bridge position. Would a noise suppressor help in keeping the hum to a minimal? If not the other option I am looking at is replacing the bridge pick up with a Dimarzio Virtual Solo Single Coil or a Seymour Duncan JB. Before I go spending more cash, what are your recommendations? I do not plan on changing the middle and neck pick, for as I have stated before they sound very sweet and the hum is not as bad with high gain as the bridge is. I would like to thank you all in advance for your advice, suggestions and help.

All the best,
Rayne

If only the bridge pickup hums badly, then it might not have been waxed correctly. I guess that would be a warranty case?

Noise can be controlled with shielding to some extent.
Good shielding can be significant on a SSS strat in my opinion.
I think CAfeathers (chet) would agree with me.
You might consider using Conductive Shielding Paint

Some people use it on the back of the pickgaurd.

You should read more there.

Thank you all for your suggestions! It was most helpful :D
I've decided to hot rod my new Strat and I've place an order for
1. Dimarzio chopper in the bridge
2. Dimarzio Fast Track 1 in the center position
3. DimarzioVirtual solo in the neck

While this may result in some controversy with some of you hard core Strat fans who might prefer the stock pup's. I 've decided to use this Strat as my main axe and I found this combination to work best for the style of music I play. However I am an enthusiast when it comes to traditional Strat sounds and I have a great admiration and respect for all you classic Strat fans & players. To make up for not having a traditional Strat in my collection my sales rep at Guitar Center has ordered a custom shop design 1960 Strat with vintage 60 pup's in a lake placid blue finish. A fine instrument and sexy instrument if I do say :D Thanks again for your help and support 8)

All the best,
Rayne
