Hi all,

I'm building a Strat and everything has been going decently well up until I figured out I totally goofed and ordered a 2 point bridge for my body. Problem of course is that it is a vintage style 6 screw.

I believe the guitar was originally a 2 7/16" mount, but the previous owner before I bought it must have drilled holes for a 2 1/16" mount as well. The rest of the body is in great shape and the color is perfect so I would really like to use it, however I'm stuck as to what size bridge I should get and where I should get it from.

Here's a pic of the holes

I'm having a little trouble finding 2 1/16" full assemblies, and I'm worried that the 2 7/16" bridges will no longer work and potentially damage the guitar due to the way the new holes were made (mainly the 3rd and 4th strings). I've seen some forum posts recommending Callaham (which seems to be a bit expensive for me) and GFS, so if anyone can give me some feedback as to what bridge size would work best and where to order it I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

Too many screw holes to my liking…
My first thought would be to drill/plug(/refin) those old holes and go from there.
The choice between a two post and a six screw trem would depend on a) how strong the body feels after that operation (IMHO, the six screw is a bit more forgiving, since the load spreads out more evenly), and b) personal preference.

PS: Your pic shows straight on the forum, if you use the direct pic address (starts "https", ends ".jpg" with the IMG-command.

+1

Decide which vintage-style bridge you prefer then proceed from there.

The unused holes should be doweled to provide some structural integrity (remember, that bridge plate will be flexing the body each time you use the trem).
