The Fed-Ex guy just dropped a package off this evening - it was one of the Black Fender Tolex cases - I had ordered it for my 75 strat, because the original case has seen better days and didnt wanna continue using it in fear of tearing it up worse - Long story short, the headstock is just a tad to big for the case - it will go in if u push the side back to get it in, but then there would be pressure pushing against the headstock - I dont know if this is enough to cause any problems, but I dont think going to put the guitar in this case - however, the big head stock does fit in the new 08 SKB cases, which is where it is now

Would that pressure against the headstock cause any problems? I know this is probably a very elementary question, but im just not sure

These cases are absolutely beautiful btw!

I found that same problem when I tried to put my Left Handed large headstock Strat into one the fitted Fender cases.

Oh yea, that definitely doesnt work - not even close to fitting - the day i bought my 75, I went to a friends pawn shop that had one of the molded cases, got it dirt cheap, brand new - not even close to fitting!

I don't know now you kind of got me worried. I had a Black Tolex harshell case back in the 70s with my 76 or 77 Stratocaster and it fitted just fine. Now I've just bought a 70s reissure and also have that Fender Black Tolex case on order and should be arriving. Why wouldn't it fit when it fit back in the 70s and is the same Fender Black Tolex harshell case that was used back in the 70s? What did they do to the case. The guitar should fit!

I've called Fender consumer relations and so did the retailer Sam Ash where I bought my Fender Stratocaster Black Tolex hardshell case & Fender themselves told the both of us that there isn't any problem with a Strat with a large headstock to fit in these cases. I don't know where these rumors came into being. Fender consumer relations also told me that they ship out all their new American Series large headstock Stratocasters in the hardshell cases and there's not a problem. I proceeded with my purchase. That's all.

The first time you try to put the guitar into the case it looks like it would not fit; actually, there is a soft pliable material under the velour that molds itself around the top of the headstock. Just remember to insert the guitar into the case headstock first and then lower in the body end. It doesn’t really put any pressure on the neck of the guitar (at least as far as I can tell) and keeps the guitar from sliding around in the case; hope this helps.

My Stagemaster has 2 extra frets and a reversed headstock - haven't found a good fitting case for it yet.
