Does anyone know why Fender put a 60th Anniversary neckplate on their limited American Standard Stratocasters?

2014 - 60th anniversary of the Stratocaster (1954).

I bought a 2014 American Standard Strat with the anniversary neck plate. It was the 60th anniversary of the Strat (1954). I may be wrong, but it seems it was on most of the guitars (or Strats) that year. There were special additions that had a slightly different neck plate.

Yes, it's confusing because these guitars were not one of the three kinds of 60th Anniversary Comemerative guitars that Fender made that year in celebration of the 1954 inception of the Strat.

I guess they decided to put the 60th Anniversary neckplate on all of their moderate to upper priced guitars that year as well.

The reason I ask this is because I had a hard time determining the model number of the used Limited Edition American Standard Strat that I just purchased, and ended up paying $200-$250 more than I should have for the guitar. I think the price was bumped up because of the 60th Anniversary nameplate. Oh well, at least I like it! It's a great guitar IMO. Most don't, but my new guitar has locking tuners on it which is nice.

It sounds like you got a great guitar. Mine doesn't have locking tuners, but it's a great guitar. Maybe Fender did something special that year on all of their stuff. Believe that and take comfort in it. You at least have a unique neck plate.

My 2014 AmDlx Strat has the 60th anniversary neckplate, even though it has the contoured heel (which is great BTW).

Ya, in '79, they had a specific 25 year Silver Anniversary release. I had one briefly and couldn't stand it... felt horrible and the pickups had no output.
Funny... I traded it back for my '78 Antigua because I couldn't "justify" owning two guitars... now I have over a dozen LOL

I think it was the 40th in 1994 that they put what I called the "lapel pin" on the headstock of all Strats, even though they have always had anniversary special editions separate from the standard production models.

"Lapel Pin" on all 1994 Strats:

VS neck plate on an actual anniversary model:

I think the locking tuners were an add-on after the initial purchase. I do enjoy having locking tuners, and the sales guy said the guitar will go up in value because of the 60th Anniversary neck plate. I don't believe that. I'm not sure he realized that this American Standard Strat isn't one of the 3 commemorative 60th Anniversary strats that also include a unique stamp on the back of the headstock. Mine doesn't have that stamp.
