necks ...ok, this is it, necks and pickps, right? ok, and color. [ you're not goin to play an orange guitar, right? ] so, I say that every model should be available with one of 2 [ two ] necks, stoopid flat Ibanez type necks that are good for shredding races, AND nice round classic necks that YOU CAN GET YOUR THUMB ON FOR STRING BENDING AND PULL OFFS. right ? SLAM

To many choices often confuses the consumer.
What about not just rounder and flatter?
If they are going to make different neck choices like that...
Why not make some 9.5" radius, 10.5" radius, 12" radius, & also 14" radius?
If that doesn't get the average consumer confused maybe we can let them choose the trem too?
And also the color of the hardware...
Soon enough there is no such thing as the American standard from a certain era.
Just Fender Frankenstrats everywhere. Too much in my opinion.

That's why there's a Custom Shop.

I agree that too many choices in production models is not good, since then there is not "real" model, if each year has so many choices. Like cars, where something changes a bit from year to year to update, make things better, try things out, etc. Otherwise, there would be no different between a vintage 68 and a brand new 08, other than age.

If I want a custom guitar, I'll have one made or go to the Custom Shop. If I want an 08 with a different neck, then I don't really want an 08, I want something different or "custom".

To take your point one step further, every player has a preference. For me, Fender's "modern C-neck" has never suited my style. My preference runs to the satin finish and neck profiles on the first Clapton's, or the new neck on the '57 Hotrod. That does not necessarily mean that the rest of the improvements in an instrument are not desirable.

Obviously, Fender felt there was a demand for their V-neck because it finally appeared on the Deluxe, and now on the VG-Deluxe. When first released, they told me it was not available and not likely to be. (So it cost me, to have the guitar I wanted, which I have described elsewhere in these posts.)

Will I acquire a Deluxe VG V-neck strat? When the Clapton gets to me from Austin, I'm going to run a comparison on the necks. That will likely factor into my decision.

For 2K ya' really gotta luv it!!"

Doc
