I have a MIM strat from circa 2009 upgraded with Fender Locking tuners and Fender 57/62 pickups. I am considering selling it and getting a new American Professional series guitar. Do you think the new guitar will be noticeably better than my MIM strat? I have never owned an American strat so I have no point of comparison.

I had a 2005 American Deluxe and it was a great player and all but now I own a 2007 MIM and I think it plays and sounds fine. I would say the deluxe played and felt slight better, if that make sense, but I'm happy with my MIM.

You could ask that question of a dozen different people and you'd probably get a dozen different answers.
There is no absolute clear-cut yes/no answer that will satisfy all players, especially given that you have upgraded your MIM.
Also you didn't say which MIM Strat you have and that could make a difference to some people.

It wouldn't make any difference to me.
I'd trade up for the MIA Pro just for the sake of the neck.

With your mods (and a steel block?), probably not. But YOU may be more inspired playing the 'genuine' article, and your playing may therefore improve.

When I was young and borassic, owning a Strat (there were ONLY American ones at that time) was a dream. When I actually bought one in the 70's (even though it was a dog) I couldn't put it down. Or to be more accurate, it was so heavy I couldn't pick it up! No seriously, it was the same guitar as many of my influences played, and meant I could now be as good as they were. (Or try to be!). However successful that ambition was, playing a 'professional' instrument was inspirational.

This is obviously a very personal tale, but if you think the same way, buy the MIA!

Cheers - Peter.

I agree with all the above and you won't be 100% happy until you have your MIA. Guitars are so much more than a couple of bits of wood and some other stuff, they speak to us. You are looking for justification that you don't need. Get your MIA. It may not be that much better than a MiM, in the same way a TAG watch isn't really better at telling time than a Swatch Watch, but it will give you that warm feeling inside.

^^^^^^ This.
Kawasaki owners who eventually manage to buy a Harley
Bulova owners who eventually buy an Omega....

Same thing.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with an MiM Strat.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with an American Professional... or an American Performer, or an American Special Strat.
The Pro has a few extra features that the Performer and MiM don't have. The *cost* difference between the Pro and the Performer is lowered to only $200 or less when you buy an HSC ($150+)... $1450 vs $1100

Well, Kawie cruiser owners anyway.
Kawie Ninja owners would eventually buy a Ducati or a Bimmer.

I have no idea what T'Pol is. If you say Vulcan to me I think of the most awesome bomber ever built. Despite being in production only 10 years after the Lancaster smashed the US in the bombing competition and still holds the record for the longest bombing raid to date.

My opinion (and mostly in line with the others): The answer is "yes". You have answered your own question just by the fact you asked it.

Just for fun, I'll go against the current. A MIM with those upgrades and the AmPro are both quite adequate guitars for most purposes. I fail to see the magic a hundred miles difference makes; not to mention that the AmPro has quite a few non-US parts in it.

For US residents, I of course understand and respect the 'support your own' thoughts. And naturally, I don't dispute that for many (most) musicians, what lingers in the mind has a lot to do with how an instrument feels.

But a 100% happiness isn't guaranteed by owning a MIA Strat…

So, it comes down to personal preferences - and that can only be answered by the OP, testing the different guitars side by side.

Operation "Black Buck" produced very little bang for buck I'm afraid......

(From Wikipedia)

"The raids did minimal damage to the runway and damage to radars was quickly repaired. A single crater was produced on the runway, rendering it impossible for the airfield to be used by fast jets. Argentine ground crew repaired the runway within twenty-four hours, to a level of quality suitable for C-130 Hercules transports. The British were aware that the runway remained in use. Dismissed in some quarters as post-war propaganda, Argentine sources originally claimed that the Vulcan raids influenced Argentina to withdraw some of their Dassault Mirage III fighter aircraft from the Southern Argentina Defence Zone to the Buenos Aires Defence Zone. This dissuasive effect was watered down when British officials made clear that there would be no strikes on air bases in Argentina. It has been suggested that the Black Buck raids were pressed home by the Royal Air Force because the British armed forces had been cut in the late seventies and the RAF may have desired a greater role in the conflict to prevent further cuts.

These sorties wouldn't have been required at all had the UK not foolishly scrapped its fixed-deck aircraft carriers and the squadrons of Buccaneers and Phantoms that flew from their decks.

As for the Avro Vulcan being "the most awesome bomber ever built", it's most noteworthy performance was watching one sink to the bottom of the ocean in filmdom's "Thunderball".

I've been fortunate enough to see the Vulcan flying on a number of occasions. The Vulcan Howl raises the hairs on the back of your neck and the performance for such a large aircraft was astonishing even more so when you consider it is of comparable age to the Strat.

I have been listening to Max Hastings account of the Falklands conflict and it confirms if you took political aspirations out of war there wouldn't be wars in the first place. As far as successes and failures, all war is a combination of both and anything which isn't a failure must be considered a success, however marginal. Regrettably often along the along the lines of - "The operation was a success although the patient died on the operating table."

HMS Hermes (the Flagship of the South Atlantic Fleet) replaced Buccaneers with Harriers 4 years before the conflict. The Buccaneer, and subsequently Harrier, at that time were primarily for air to surface and and air to air roles. It wasn't until later that the Harrier was developed to provide an offensive air to ground capability.

The main issue with large carriers, not unlike the German pocket battleships of WWII, is they are too valuable an asset and thus too greater a target....all your eggs in one basket etc.

So true to my experience. I had an MIM Standard first...then a while later I owned my first MIA. Compared to the Mexican Strat, I ended up not liking the American Strat at all. I sold the MIA and bought a second MIM.
You'll just have to compare your choices...everyone is different.
