Hi there, last chritsmas i bought a strat special sss 2tsb, and i'm very, very happy with this guitar, sound TS's and playerbility, perfectally set up from shop.
The difference with the Performer are basically the pick ups, i haven't tried this one, but i don't think can be better.
(sorry about my english)

They also added a P-P pot that connects the bridge and neck pickups.
It's been a fairly popular mod for years, and G&L did it on the S-500 model. It's a nice option that allows for a "Tele" pickup configuration, as well as all 3 pickups in the 2 and 4 positions.
I'm surprised Fender never put it into regular production until now.

Perhaps because most people are happy with the standard 5 sounds, Rich?

Fender just tinkering, as far as I'm concerned. Trying to make something 'new' without spending much money on either R&D or the actual bits. As you say, it's more commonly an owners' mod - which is fair enough, of course - but I'd be surprised if it made a new Strat more desirable to the majority? Obviously Fender thinks otherwise, though, and who knows...?!

Cheers - Peter.
