The tremolo is the current American Special model made by Ping, Taiwan. The Fender part number is 0072290000 and used to be available as a spare part but, it seems, no longer.
Fender also used to sell USA manufactured replacement blocks (part number 0073943000) but stopped about 2 years ago.

Might be an idea to contact Fender UK see if they can supply either item as repair spares.

The Callaham equivalent bridge is the V/N which is £179 from Chandler's Guitar Experience.

And we have established that this US-made Fender does not contain Mexican Standard parts!

Yes, I had something similar with a Special I bought, and bought a Callaham to replace the whole caboodle. It was specifically for the Special but didn't fit!!!

64Galaxie's right, the original PW-36 trem isn't now made; I got one from Angela - I couldn't find anyone in the UK with stock. I actually find it very good and wouldn't swap it now - it suits this guitar down to the ground. And I certainly wouldn't bother with anything Callaham again, who didn't reply to either my or the UK supplier's questions re the one I had to return. All-in-all, the swap was a bit more expensive than I reckoned. The trem was about 40 quid but importing it almost doubled that.

I only mention this in case (as it seems?) you're in the UK. My story's a couple of years old, and getting hold of a Special/Pro trem could be very difficult now.

Cheers - Peter.

Update: I have the Callaham Mexican Block now and it fits.

It's taken a lot of trial and error to get it set up the way I want it, but it's close to the way it was with my old block. I have it floating...I've had a lot of tuning issues but I think it just needs to settle in. I found Fender's guide on setting up a strat very helpful.

I had no idea how radically a new block would change the tone. I'm not sure if I like it or not yet...I'm finding it harder to get a clean/twangy sound, and there seems to be a lot more sustain. I'm going to gig with it tonight anyway, so that'll be a good opportunity to really test it out.

It's a shame to hear that I'll struggle to get a PW-36 in the UK. I still have the one I took out, as I plan to drill the snapped whammy bar out of it and re-thread it. It might turn out that I want to put it back on, depending on how I get on.

Anyway, thanks for all the help guys, I really appreciate it. I've learnt a lot doing this, and I'll be a lot more careful when ordering parts in future!

Cheers
