Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

How many times have you dressed the current frets?

hi
i guess i have understoood , this means not replace all the frets but fix the frets on my guitar , but the medium jumbo are very low and not tall like the jumbo

may i ask you a question?
why does fender use very cheap frets on mim ?
at the least many lutists told me it , even the elite seems to use the same frets
thanks

Your '57 reissue is from 1995. That is over 20 years of playing.
Frets can be expected to be worn on 20 year old guitars, not because Fender used cheap frets.

Now, consider that a *proper* refret done by a skilled luthier (NOT the "lutist" who hacked up your truss rod and scratchplate!) is expensive. Being an MiM, it is not a particularly valuable guitar to start with, you might be better to simply swap the neck for a new one for $300.

So it is not this guitar?
https://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php ... 7#p1241287

It looks like all of the MiM standard Strat necks are Medium Jumbo.

You might actually prefer the Vintage fretwire, it is taller than the Medium Jumbo, just not quite as wide

I linked to the Fender sales site, but I don't believe they display prices or sell directly to outside of North America. You would probably need to order through a local dealer.
Jumbo frets only appear to be available on the American Special neck (which will bolt up to your body, but has the large '70s style CBS headstock)... these are close to $500 US, and the Deluxe Series, same headstock, but MiM and it's about $250.
The Vintage frets are available on the Classic 60s MiM neck for about $250.

hi
about the link of the guitar , i gave up, i was buying ,but it has several issue ,so i did buy it
i appreciate a lot the frets site table , i would like the stainless frets are too exansive to mount on a guitar , are around 500€ , here a mim standard is around 500€
it's weird because many gibson les paul uses the same medium jumbo size of the mim ,but they hard to wear
maybe they use an harder material
thanks

That was my thought as well.

I would love to see pictures of these worn frets after 1 year of playing.

I have retired my first Strat due to fret wear after 20+ years. The wear certainly hasn't rendered it unplayable but there probably isn't enough fret depth for a complete re-level and crown. There are divots in the higher string frets by the nut but, as I tend to bend and vibrato a lot, the majority of the frets are just flattened. If I was still playing it I might consider re crowing the frets but it is far from unplayable.

What I am trying to say is, Fender frets wear but (at least to me) it isn't a big issue. Perhaps they do wear more than other guitars but perhaps they sound different or don't kill strings in the same way other guitars do.

I imagine stainless steel frets might produce a more brittle sound. That might be fine on a Les Paul with muddy mellow tones to spare but I would anticipate this might push a Strat over the edge of brightness?

I wouldn't base any notions on imagination.
Experience yes, imagination a great big no.

A decent Les Paul should sound like a Telecaster on steroids.

How to post photo as read on Fender Forum

https://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=109081

_________________________________________

First you need to upload your pics to the internet. From a great forum member ; Jmattis

Use a pic hosting site (imgur, imgbb, flickr or such - avoid photobucket) or some common web framework like e.g. facebook, googlephotos - whatever you're familiar with.

The important thing is that the web site provides you with a pic address - that's the one starting with 'http' and ending in '.jpg'.

Copy the pic address, and use the IMG-command (visible when you write a message) on the forum.

Preview your post so everything is OK.
