It's in much better shape than my '91 Strat. If I didn't know any better, it could pass as a recent reissue. :)

A true closet find!

Ya know, if you pop that tuner off, the cover should come right off and you can see if the worm drive has jumped or if the retaining tabs have been bent.

I am envious of your find, I think you have real treasure there. I had a '76 with a solid walnut body, I think it was a "D" shape neck on it, in maple. It too was a hardtail. Sold it in a moment of madness and regretted it ever since. I have not picked up a Strat since then that has the action of that beast. If the tuning peg is the only issue, then you have a keeper.
