A friend learning to play asked me a question today and I thought I would pose it here for some opinions...

He owns an american standard and has had a few issues with the guitar staying in tune while using the tremelo.

I know the deluxe comes with locking tuners and I put locking tuners on my MIM.

So the question is, are the tuners on an american standard typically any good because they don't really seem any better than the old ones on my MIM? or has my friend just gotten one with some less than great tuners?

The tuners on MIA Strats are staggered. They have never given me any problems on my American.

Hello Nicholsoni,

The tuners on my American standard
work fine and I have no problems
of staying in tune.

but I prefer the locking model
simply because of ease of operation.

Cheers.

The problem might not be the tuners, but rather maybe not enough springs in the claw/block if it's only happening during trem use.

The nut may need to be dressed as well...it could be hanging up there during trem use if it's not cut perfectly for the size strings you are using.
