Hi All, I was hoping you could help me out. I have been borrowing someone's guitar for 10+ years (12-14?). I am finally getting off my kiester to get my own guitar so I can give his back. FYI - He has my custom MTD bass. Very fair trade-off to his advantage, if I don't say so myself. Anyway, it is a 1999 American Strat, Serial N9 (that's how I found the year), Rosewood Board. Now, this is where my questions begin. How do I identify the neck and frets, which I assume will be the most important thing to me, as I want it to feel like the guitar I learned on. The guy at guitar center was poop. He said a C neck but I think it is a Thin C or a Smooth C? How do I tell? He also said it looks like a Jeff Beck model. How do I tell that? My headstock doesn't have his signature on it. And the body? They all look the same to me but slightly different. I would just like to buy the same thing used if I know what it is. I give you little to go on as I am unsure what I should be looking for. Thanks for any responses or direction.

Ok, I did a ton of research and found that it is just a plain 1999 American Standard. I went on Reverb and found the exact same one, different color. The previous owner changed the pickup guard. My new question would be, when it arrives, how can I tell if they are the original coil pickups? And is there anything else I should be looking for?

Well since you found it and bought it, when it arrives play it and see how you like it.
Don't worry about the little things unless you don't like how it plays/sounds.
If you know the serial number already, send an email to consumer relations and ask for the original specification data and a copy of the service diagram. That will allow you to identify any mods that a previous owner may have made.
Enjoy your new guitar. If it doesn't work out, trade it for your friends!!
