Creative but how is the tone ctl engaged in the mid position?
You need another jumper on the tone side from pos 2 to the 1st neck tone position. :D

Ya.... I missed that (still thinking conventionally with the neck/middle using a shorted switch position.)
Relocate the tone pots from the "tone side" of the switch to the input side e.g. no need for switching, hard-wired to the pickups.

@jimmy_james Wouldn't the Tone1 be engaged for both mid/neck pickups in switch position 2, via the original neck wiring (lug 2, tone side)?

That was my original thought, but in the middle switch position, neither tone pot is connected to the wiper.
But since there is no need to switch the tone pots, they can be hard-wired on the other side of the switch.

CB your original idea would work well with the addition of the jumper I mentioned with the first tone working for the neck and mid :D

Which would be no different from just connecting the tone pots directly to the neck and bridge pickups (like a Gibson) since the jumper would make the same connection, but moving the pot to the pickup side eliminates 2 solder joints from the tone circuit.

Since the switch is being changed to a 3-way, there's no reason not to simplify the wiring

Well... My idea for both my American Special and Antigua Partscaster....
With an S1 switch, "Normal" will be the same as my AmSpec... Greasebucket with tone on bridge and neck.
With the S1 depressed, it'll tie the bridge to the neck for "Tele Mode"... or provide for all 3 pickups in the 2/4 positions... and also switch the #2 tone from the bridge to the middle, since when joined with the neck, the neck tone pot will control the bridge, so the pickup selections will be:
S1 Up - B(T2) - B/M - M - M/N - N(T1)
S1 On - B/N(T1) - B/M/N - M(T2) - B/M/N - B/N(T1)
Fairly simple wiring and retains the standard 5-way.

I'm *not* going to hack up the AmSpec factory wiring though... That pickguard will be removed and stored. It is Olympic White, and I've always liked the later 70s models with black plastics, so I bought a loaded TX-Special PG from Sigler in black. It came with a toggle to join the B/N... I have that on my G&L S500, so wanted to do something different. Then last week I got a wild hair to go ahead and do it in black pearloid, so it won't be exactly like a late 70s, but like one that someone "made their own"

Even though we're going on the second page of the topic with no feedback from the OP, I'll blatantly reuse this as my own valuable learning opportunity

Your first pic on page one: On the middle position of the 3way switch, the neck pickup is jumpered together with the middle pickup. On pos3, neck pickup only, the tone 1 is operational. Then why wouldn't it be operational on pos2, as an embellishment of the jumpered neck pup..?

Because there’s no tone control wired to the second position.

Therefore, with this wiring in the image below, while in position two, you only get the middle and neck pickups, no tone control.

Because the blade is only touching these two terminals.
