I have a 3-way switch blade, and I want to continue to have a 3-way switch on my strat, because it's my guitar, I bought it, and that's really the only reason that is necessary ...

(sorry... I'm always asked why I want to make my guitars look, sound, and play the way I want them to ... which is really a bit insane to ask).....

I want to wire it so that it operates this way:... 1) Bridge - 2) Neck and Middle - 3) Neck ...

Does anybody know how to wire the switch this way ...?

Any help or wiring diagram would be much appreciated

Thanks
AC

ST52, he wants a 3 position switch with only these 3 connections:
1. Bridge
2. Neck & middle
3. Neck

Those are the normal 1, 4, and 5 positions on a 5-way, but he doesn't want to use a 5-way.

(I completely understand that -- I remove 5-ways and replace them with 3-ways. I sometimes accidentally bump 5-ways into the wrong position while playing -- the bigger jump between positions on 3-ways prevents that.)
---------------------
But as far as I know, you can't wire a 3-way to get those three desired connections.

Disclaimer: over the decades I experimented a lot with wiring. So I'm familiar with the sounds you can get, remember how to do some of it, and can Google most of the rest.

But I found I never really use the unusual settings. I'm not even a fan of 2&4 on Strats. So I've forgotten a lot of what I used to know.

IIRC, adding a jumper between the neck & middle connections will give you neck & middle in both positions.

But if Stratele52 says there's a way to do it, there probably is.

For now, I'm too busy to make a sketch and download to the forum.
Yes it is just a jumper at the right switch's terminal

Jumper in red is what you need
Forget the third wire to ground from Lace sensor. Follow wiring diagram, it is right.

On the other hand, the vintage three way switch wired Strats had those (legendary) in-between positions, where two lugs were shorted. Learning to use those would keep all three current positions and add two - without rewiring.

BTW; there has (of course) been some debate about if the in-between sounds on a vintage 3way switch are different from positions 2&4 on a 5way switch.

IMO, in -between 3 way or on a 5 way, a contact is a contact.

Debate could be about sound of a '60 guitar....
Any link about that debate ?

That wiring looks like mid and bridge with no tone on the bridge. :D

Hrmmm.... Stratele's mod will provide Bridge-Middle, Bridge-Middle, Neck only.
It can be done maintaining the correct tone controls, but would require a Superswitch... which is a 5-way.

Wait.....
With the middle pickup never being used by itself, only in combination with the neck, there's no need for the tone control to be on the middle pickup... the neck tone control can control the middle. Bridge can then get its own tone control.
That frees up the middle terminal on the tone side of the 5(3) way switch....

Creative but how is the tone ctl engaged in the mid position?
You need another jumper on the tone side from pos 2 to the 1st neck tone position. :D

This is getting interesting for my learn-how-to-design-wiring-diagrams(-delayed-because-of-limited-time-resources) project… At first glance, I thought this would be an easy thang, but seems not...

@jimmy_james Wouldn't the Tone1 be engaged for both mid/neck pickups in switch position 2, via the original neck wiring (lug 2, tone side)?

And one thing to ponder; we have no idea of which Strat the OP has - even though it has a three way switch, the pickups might not be all-similar (like in the modified Highway One diagram CB91710 posted), so what about possible phase issues..?
