Hi

might you please tell me which is the best tool to adjust the truss rod of my stratocaster reissue '57 ?

a philip screwdriver (which size) or Allen key or which too

i don't want to rip off or damage the truss rod that you can see in the picture

and may I ask a second question ?
my fender strato usa reissue '57 is '95 year
may people told me the built quality of stratos in that years was not very good , and in the after the 2000 fender did raise up the built quality of their usa guitar , neck ,body , pick ups and so on

thanks

If you are asking the question you might be better taking it to a professional.

As noted above, someting is wrong as the nut is much too far out.

With regard to comments about quality, it is probably just jealous people trying to hide their envy. Ignore them or get different friends

Hi John
when i bought it , i have asked to a lutist to let me adjust the truss road without disable the neck

may i ask you what's wrong? i mean you said is too much far out

well i have understood , could be a problem have a nut so far out?
maybe the lutist did it to adjust the relief more easly

what could cause it (that's too far out) ?
could be fixed ? or do i need to replace the neck?

thanks
really appreciate any help

The head of the nut should be flush with the end of the neck, or at least it was originally.

Because you asked the luthier to make it so you could adjust it (a strange request) perhaps he put washers behind the nut (or put in a longer nut) to make it stick out. This is only a guess but it does mean you could adjust it with a flat screw driver, or the shaft of an appropriate thickness alen key from above - like you would with an American Elite. This is only a guess and you would need to ask the luthier. Did it stick out before you gave it to the Luthier?

If this is what was done I personally wouldn't be happy as it greatly reduces the thread bearing in the nut unless a long nut was used.

First you must move a bit the pickguard away from the neck to save it.

I use flat screw driver, a long screw driver. I never need to remove a neck. Often it work better than a philips screwdriver.

When you ask what size of philips ( or other ) screwdriver you must use, for any kind of screw you must use the biggest bit you can.

That nut is either way out of adjustment, or the truss rod has become damaged or broken and someone has tried to stack washers under the nut to increase tension. When they failed to get the neck adjusted, they sold the guitar.
The pickguard has been heavily damaged by the previous attempts at "fixing" it.

I'd give even odds that the neck is going to need to be replaced. I don't know if the truss rod can be replaced.
You need to take that to a *qualified* repair person.

I have just one question about getting the truss rod adjustment nut altered.
Why?

It wasn't broken before, and now it looks a proper dog's breakfast.
The usual procedure for adjusting the truss rod tension on a vintage style instrument is straightforward enough.
Fast forward to 3:48

It's actually all four screws, but the two nearest the neck pickup need to be loosened considerably more.

Some guitars have screw holes that are very tight fitting, and it is physically impossible to do what's shown in the video.
In such a case you'd need to slacken the strings right off, capo the strings at the first fret, and completely undo the neck screws in order to get to the nut.
My son's 60s lacquer Stratocaster is one such case in point. At some point I'll pull it apart again, and work the screw hole sizes up a touch.

It's your guitar, and if you're happy .......

It still looks like a dog's breakfast, and if it were mine that would grind my gears
